A well-performed voice actor gives a great way to follow the adventures of Eric, Suzy, and Abbey. When Eric decides to invite his in-laws for the holidays and events take some unexpected turns. Their new home is dilapidated, he has left his job to get the house, Suzy is now working doubly hard, and the normal strains on relationships are developing Little Abby is becoming more of a developed character, the neighbors are driving them crazy, and the in-laws are nuts with the mother-in-law being into chrystals. A fun story.

Lola Sphinx has opened a potion shop in the magical town of Warlor and is delighted when Detective Dereck asks her out to the Spring Welcome Celebration.  What starts as a great time ends with the discovery that a merman is killed and a friend of Lola's is accused.  Lola has to figure out who the real killer is before anything else happens.  The story is a fun little mystery with a myriad of interesting characters.  The mystery holds together but, I admit, the voice actor's performance could be more animated.  I bought a Kindle copy of the book back in November and got a free copy of the audiobook and wanted to do a review.

Inca and her friends have run-ins with various local wildlife, not all of which are positive. Will our heroes be successful, or will they end up as an after-dinner mint to some mighty beast? Get the story and fine out! As always, Inca and friends give a lot of enjoyment.

What did you love best about Death at the Cafe?

A wonderfully enjoyable entry into the Reverend Annabelle Dixon Cozy Mystery series. Unlike the later works, Reverend Annabelle is located in London and serving as an assistant in a large church. When she goes to meet a childhood friend, Sister Mary (a Catholic Nun) to catch up on old times a murder occurs and, thus, begins a rapid series of events. Thinking about it after listening to the terrific performance by narrator, I realized that it most closely resembles a Hitchcock film, such as, “The 39 Steps” in which an innocent person is dragged into events and suspected of a crime. The story is well paced, the characters wonderfully drawn, and the vocal performance top-notch. The realization of whodunit is my favorite scene as it is logical, but unexpected when the book is first read. I’ve been a fan of the series for a while and when I got the chance to get a free copy of the audio book, I jumped at the chance; to me, the mark of a good book is being able to reread, or listen again, to a work. I am delighted to do a review for the audio book The book certainly manages to be enjoyable, even as I knew what happened. I recommend the book, and audio book, to anyone who enjoys a good whodunit.

Would you listen to Restriction again? Why?

I enjoyed the book, the performance, and the storytelling. The mark of a good story is that I would listen to it again and again. It brought the world to life.

What other book might you compare Restriction to and why?

It most reminded me of the works of Andrea Pearson and her Mosaic Chronicles as both involve magic, adventure, and well developed characters.

What about Kate Rudd’s performance did you like?

The performance was expressive and kept my interest throughout the work. A good performer can save a bad book, a bad one can kill a good book, but combine a good performance with a good book and it is golden. Kate Rudd had good material and gave it the performance it deserved.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book evoked emotions of humor, pathos, and a range of other reactions; in short, it was realistic in the way real life is.

Any additional comments?

I'd definitely read other works by the author.

A good addition to the series and a fun book to listen to on Audible. I originally read it and found it was good enough to revisit. The audio performance was very well done.
