I had to force myself to finish
Reviewed: 07-12-20
I could not wait for this book to be released. The Night Circus is my all time favorite book. I have read it a dozen times, so, when I heard about this one I was beyond thrilled. Sadly, it has taken me 8 painful months to finish this book. I wanted so badly to enjoy it as much as I did her first book and in the beginning it seemed like it really was going in that direction......but no, it just kept getting more and more and more confusing. And I realize that’s her style and the point but at some point in the story I was expecting that “Ah Hah”moment and it just never happened. Readers if this is the only Erin Morgenstern book you have read and you did not enjoy this, I promise you the Night Circus is a much better read! Don’t hold this one against her.

I really had low expectations for this book, mostly because every one I've read lately has been sub-par. But this book managed to hold my interest through out, I didn't get annoyed with the reader, and it was mature enough to where I didnt feel like I was reading something written for a kid.

Reviewed: 08-03-17
Would you try another book from Ilona Andrews and/or Renee Raudman?
I would READ another Ilona Andrews book, but I don't know that my ears would make it through Renee Raudman's narrating. I am not a fan of the way Holly Hunter talks and that's exactly what Renee sounds like as Nevada. But what's worse is her "Rogan" voice. There is nothing worse than listening to someone try and be "Southern", even a someone born and raised in the South can jack up the accent by overdoing it. And to listen to the 2 main characters have an intimate moment in her voice is simply laughable. I'm sure that was not the authors intent; to have the listener so turned off by the narrating of a scene that they are left feeling uncomfortable.
Look I get that Nevada is not supposed to be some helpless Southern Belle ,but her narrator and character just don't match.
Would you recommend White Hot to your friends? Why or why not?
Maybe just for a filler read or sitting by the pool. I certainly wouldn't recommend listening to it on Audible, but I think it would be more enjoyable in my own head.
Would you be willing to try another one of Renee Raudman’s performances?
Not if that's how she narrates everything.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes, I did like the action and overall story line.

Bringing the magic and suspense of the All Souls Trilogy to a deeply satisfying conclusion, this highly anticipated finale went straight to number one on the New York Times best seller list. In The Book of Life, Diana and Matthew time-travel back from Elizabethan London to make a dramatic return to the present - facing new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home, Sept-Tours, they reunite with the beloved cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches - with one significant exception.

I was reluctant to even read the final book, I had read so many negative reviews about the final book not doing the story justice, but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I really was not a fan of the 2nd book at all. I was happy with the ending and how each character was left.

I read a few reviews before starting the 2nd book and I see where people talked about the author over compensating her historical expertise. There are moments where I feel more like I'm listening to a history book and not the story. And maybe that was the goal, but I found myself thinking "Okay can we please get back to Matthew & Diana." Overall I still enjoyed it, and I will move on to book 3.

Twilight for adults
Reviewed: 06-28-17
If you appreciate a story of a forbidden romance caught up in a world of vampires, witches, demons then this book is spot on! I enjoyed reading The Twilight Series but they were a bit adolescent for my taste. This book is all of the same romance, excitement, drama, and intensity, but presented in a more tasteful and grown up manner. I especially love the pieces of history and science thrown into the mix. I cannot wait to read on and immerse myself in more of Diana and Matthews adventure.
