How can you go wrong with a must read book for $2
- By James on 03-06-11
great story, but dated quality

While I love the fact that we're getting a slice of the past with this full casted performance, the fact that it was recorded before the age of digital technology is blatant. I'm not sure if some further remastering or editing process is possible, but it's simply difficult to understand what is being said. This sounds like it was recorded using actors on a stage, not voice actors poised over dedicated microphones. It kind of ruins the experience for me.

Story
Rhapsody is a woman, a singer of some talent who is swept up into events of world-shattering import. On the run from an old romantic interest who won't take no for an answer, Rhapsody literally bumps into a couple of shady characters: half breeds who come to her rescue in the nick of time. Only the rescue turns into an abduction, and Rhapsody soon finds herself dragged along on an epic voyage--one that spans centuries and ranges across a wonder-filled fantasy world.

Overall good book with original cultures

Good story, and even better performance, but I just couldn't keep from getting severely annoyed by the lack of development and steadfast naivete of the character Rhapsody. Her constant surprise when her murdering and dark natured companions keep murdering and doing dark things is a constant source of eye rolling, and her apparent confusion for why she is so enrapturing makes her seem like a dumb damsel instead of the heroine the story seems to pose her as.

There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! It's no question why this is a top seller. Taylor's new and far reaching considerations of a life housed in software are told and delivered in a story wonderfully narrated by a talented teller.

Story
Outlink station Miranda has been destroyed by a nanomycelium, and the very nature of this sabotage suggests that the alien bioconstruct Dragon - a creature as untrustworthy as it is gigantic - is somehow involved. Sent out on a titanic Polity dreadnought, the Occam Razor, agent Cormac must investigate the disaster. Meanwhile, on the remote planet Masada, the long-term rebellion can never rise aboveground, as the slave population is subjugated by orbital laser arrays controlled by the Theocracy in their cylinder worlds.

Great book. Bad narrator.

I am completely in love with Neal Asher's stories and writing style. This story is no different. What I like a little less however is David Marantz reading it. His standard narration is good, but his characters are extremely flat-- especially his female ones. It's as if he has to pick between voice pitch and character depth. Eldene sounded like some ditsy blonde instead of a skeptical, intelligent, rebel.
