Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend this book to a friend. It's a fascinating read that will make you think about life and the world in a whole new way.

What did you like best about this story?

The idea about the diminishing diversity of the human microbiome in the modern developed world.

Have you listened to any of Charlie Anson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't heard him before.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No - it's too densely packed with facts, theories, new words, concepts, etc. to listen to in one sitting.

Would you listen to Churchill's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare again? Why?

I loved the book but wouldn't listen to it again because I never read (or listen to) the same book twice.

What other book might you compare Churchill's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare to and why?

It had a similar feel to The Boys on the Boat - the underdogs winning against all odds because of sheer force of determination, unorthodox approach, and willingness to be perceived as absurd while maintaining confidence & focus.

Which scene was your favorite?

There are so many. I'd have to say it was either the bombing of Norsk Hydro or the theft of the German ships from Fernando Po.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The death of Colin Gubbins' son.

Would you try another book from Terry Matlen MSW and/or Randye Kaye?

No

What could Terry Matlen MSW have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Less patronizing, more optimistic, more realistic about what's possible. Keep in mind most of us work, have kids, do the lion's share of housework, are taking care of aging parents, etc and she suggests we do things like laminate recipe cards and glue pictures of the contents of file folders to the outside of the box. I felt like I had told her my house is burning down and she suggested I paint the garage door. Middle aged women are like Atlas, holding up the world, and those of us listening to her book are trying to hold up the world with one arm tied behind our backs. I also found her message very discouraging. At one point in the book she goes out of her way to say that there is no corresponding gift or advantage that comes with ADHD and that it's a flat out disability with no upsides. Not only do I think she's wrong, I think that message is downright demoralizing.

Don't even get me started on the number of times she mentions her website in the book - sometimes multiple times in one paragraph! By the end I literally screamed out loud in the car as I was listening when she started saying "for more information go to http:// ...." I would love to know how much money she gets from the products she mentions.

What didn’t you like about Randye Kaye’s performance?

I think she had a really tough job to do given the content of the book and author's lame attempts at humor. But I couldn't stand when she was trying to make it obvious that something was wry.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment, frustration
