Story
Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman sit across from each other every day...and they hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. Lucy can't understand Joshua's joyless, uptight approach to his job and refusal to smile. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy's overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and desire to be liked. Now they're up for the same promotion, and Lucy, usually a determined people pleaser, has had enough: it's time to take him down. But as the tension between Lucy and Joshua reaches its boiling point, it's clear that the real battle has only just begun....

Story
From the Orange Prize-winning, internationally best-selling author of The Song of Achilles comes the powerful story of the mythological witch Circe, inspired by Homer's Odyssey. In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe has neither the look nor the voice of divinity and is scorned and rejected by her kin. Increasingly isolated, she turns to mortals for companionship, leading her to discover a power forbidden to the gods: witchcraft.

I had high hopes for this book. I really didn't enjoy the narrator. The way she spoke was so matter of fact and just far to direct.
Also the author really loved reminding us the MC was form Walla Walla 😖

I'm the Kane brother everyone gossips about behind closed doors. Trust fund brat. Washed-up athlete. High-functioning alcoholic. No one know the real me but her. Lana Castillo - my childhood best friend and the only woman I ever loved. When I broke her heart six years ago, I promised to never return to Lake Wisteria. I kept my word until my grandfather's will changed everything. To receive my inheritance, I was tasked with spending a summer at the family lake house before selling it. Could have been better
Reviewed: 01-12-24
Firstly loved the female narrator but something about Cal's narration really bugged me. Really not great.
Overall, I enjoyed the book but I felt like it lacked something. It was like parts were missing and left unfinished. Wish we could have had more interaction with Antonella. How she impacted Lana and Cami and more of the history there. Same with this mysterious Victor. I think there was more to that story than they let on.
But still a good story. Loved that Cal got help for himself and it wasn't as if Lana magically fixed him. There was honesty about the struggles all though would have been great to delve into that a bit more when Cal was in rehab. So we could better understand the issues he went through.
Giving it a 4 but really it's a 3.5

Really well written with such honesty. Nothing was held back. It was like reading Britney's personal diary. I feel such sadness for what she went through for so long, but also so happy and hopefully she continues to find herself and her way in the world with her freedom.

The female reader of Lou is brilliant. I have loved disappearing into this world. Canmot wait for the final book.
