Story
Conspiracy theories are starting to become so much more than the obsession of fringe individuals. A survey by New Science magazine found that the percentage of people believing in one or more conspiracies had risen from 15% twenty years ago to 35% per cent last year. They are shaping politics, media, the way we view life itself. In The Conspiracy Tourist Dom Joly sets out to find out where these ideas come from and learn about the people who create and believe them.

Ted 11/10
Reviewed: 04-03-24
The story is about an author that goes on a journey to an alien world which turns out to be his own. Along the way he meets some strange people and gets into bizarre situations. 5/5 for realism but 11/10 for Ted.

Unusual and entertaining
Reviewed: 10-17-23
I was recommended this book by my wife and I had a little trouble getting started because it isn’t exactly what I would normally read. However, the narration was very good and entertaining. The story did not go entirely as I expected, which I do consider praiseworthy. I am glad I took a chance on it.

Story
Clifford Island. When Willow Stone finds these words written on the floor of her deceased son’s bedroom, she’s perplexed. She’s never heard of it before, but soon learns it’s a tiny island off Wisconsin’s Door County peninsula, 200 miles from Willow’s home. Why would her son write this on his floor? Determined to find answers, Willow sets out for the island. After a few days on Clifford, Willow realizes: This place is not normal. Everyone seems to be stuck in a particular day in 1994.

I love the feeling of isolation Dead-11 creates and the mythos you get sucked into. Good stuff. The narration here was also really good, never felt like anything was forced. So glad I found this audiobook, been wanting this for a while. If you enjoy horror, I don’t see how you could not enjoy this.

Story
Vampires have come to Lancre, but they're not what you'd expect. Sure, they drink blood and view humans as dinner, but they're modern and sophisticated. They've got style and fancy waistcoats. And they're not a bit afraid of garlic. The Magpyr family are out of the casket and want a bite of the future. But they haven't met the neighbours yet. Between them and Lancre stand a coven of four - Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat and young Agnes - and they don't take kindly to murderous intruders....

It isn't easy, being a teenage pharaoh. You're not allowed to carry money, uninhibited young women peel your grapes for you, everyone thinks you're responsible for making the sun rise and the corn grow, you keep dreaming about seven thin cows and seven fat cows (one of them playing the trombone), and on top of everything else, the Great Pyramid has just exploded because of paracosmic instability.

I enjoyed the character’s portrayed by Nigel Planer especially, he does the whole thing from what I can tell but its east to distinguish who is talking. The story is fun and I could easily listen to it again. Love Terry Pratchett’s works.

Tiffany Aching, the boldest heroine ever to swing a frying pan against the forces of evil, is beginning her apprenticeship in magic. She expects to work hard, learn spells, and become a witch. She doesn't expect to find herself doing chores, caring for the careless, and trying to outthink an ill-tempered nanny goat. There must be more to witchcraft than this!

There is something about Terry Pratchett’s Discworld I just can’t get enough of. Its cynical and funny and has a social commentary woven into it in the midst of an engaging fantasy. Stephen Briggs is a wonderful narrator. I usually read horror and this is a fun lighthearted departure for me.

I have been listening to everything I can find from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. It is bar-nun, one of the best fictional universes I have had the pleasure of experiencing. It is somehow light hearted and cynical, funny and relatable, and I can’t get enough. I wish there were more and more.
