Story
After a sad and neglected childhood as an orphan, Jane Eyre was hired by Edward Rochester as governess for his ward. Jane was pleased with the quiet country life at Thornfield, with the beautiful old manor house and gardens, with the book-filled library, and with her own comfortable room. But there were stories of a strange tenant, a woman who laughed like a maniac, and who stayed in rooms on the third floor.

This was my first Murakami but won’t be the last!
The tale was so effortless and easygoing, very intense without being forcefull in any manner.
The characters were as complicated and multi-faceted as people in real life are. I have a bona fide Midori in my social circles.
I went to Japan in 1979 and listening about the location brought back fond memories.
Performance was great too. Couldn’t have been a more approoriate voice for the lead guy, was it Watanabe, but all the other voices the reader used were just as fitting!

Story
Miss Pettigrew is a down-on-her-luck, middle-aged governess sent by her employment agency to work for a nightclub singer rather than a household of unruly children. Over a period of 24 hours, as she becomes caught up in the life of Delysia LaFloss, her own life is changed - forever. This charming, funny, light-hearted 1938 novel was a bestseller on its first appearance. Read by Academy Award winning actress Frances McDormand, who stars in the 2008 film as Miss Pettigrew.

Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

An improbable and shallow tale
Reviewed: 01-08-22
I had a hard time finishing this book because of the unlikely turns it took and the doubtful scenes it presented. Like what about her dental care: did she have a tooth brush and how could she manage never seeing a dentist?
The characters were two-dimensional, either good or bad like in fairy tales, but this was supposed to describe real life, and normal people are more complex and have more depth.
I’m not sure if I am right (as English is not my native language) but it seemed to me like the reader was only faking the lokal accent and it didn’t sound genuine.
I’m sure this book is good for a great mass of people but I don’t belong to them.

Story
What if—whoosh, right now, with no explanation—a number of us simply vanished? Would some of us collapse? Would others of us go on, one foot in front of the other, as we did before the world turned upside down? That's what the bewildered citizens of Mapleton, who lost many of their neighbors, friends and lovers in the event known as the Sudden Departure, have to figure out. Because nothing has been the same since it happened—not marriages, not friendships, not even the relationships between parents and children.

This audiobook was simply excellent! The first 20 minutes it was difficult for me to get a grip of the tale, but after that, it was pure concentration. I was so disappointed when it ended because I wanted MORE! Now that I got done for over a week ago the story still lives within me, which is a sure sign of a magnificent book.

shallow like a Barbie doll play of little girls
Reviewed: 10-19-12
Narrative is shallow, characters infantile. Like little girls playing with Barbie dolls. Only one thought at a time in the head, and the thought is written all over the face so they always know what everybody else is thinking. It is either black or white, no grey shades. She is either a stubborn idiot or a mindless sheep. She turns overnight from virginity into a sex maniac. They are so modest they cover their nakedness and call the organs her sex and his erection – how hypocritical can you get! The other characters exist only for the lead couple's convenience and can be taken out of the doll house only at the times needed.
There is so much repetition that the tale is extremely boring even though there is an attempted rape or murder or a severe accident or other such calamity on a daily basis. The entity could easily be fitted into one volume and the message would be conveyed just as well.
The author is true to her idols with only slight updating: in Jane Eyre's days a bridal veil was being slashed while today it is Audi tyres.
As real life is complex and has more levels than either/or, I listened to the entire trilogy to the very end despite my feelings of nausea and disgust. While despising myself along with the rest of the shallow folks who consume this kind of crap for their entertainment I was urged to see if there would not be a jewel hidden some place after all. As the story went on with no jewel appearing I found myself hoping he'd at least get assassinated to put the irritating story out of its misery. Even that satisfaction wasn't granted, so my only gain was getting my American collocuialims updated as not hearing English let alone American being spoken that often degrades the language.
But Becca Battoe performs well!
