A very objective and informative look into the evolution of blues/rock band Led Zeppelin. Spitz tells it straight up without sanitizing or sensationalizing. I found the narrator very easy and pleasant to listen to. This is a well-done biography. Recommended.

Story is good. writing somewhat amateurish. narration good except for too much mispronunciation. first half of book much more interesting than last half. Mark's horrifying suffering led him to a strength that only faith in God will allow. Very inspiring.

On screen, Danny Trejo the actor is a baddie who has been killed at least a hundred times. He’s been shot, stabbed, hanged, chopped up, squished by an elevator, and once, was even melted into a bloody goo. Off screen, he’s a hero beloved by recovery communities and obsessed fans alike. But the real Danny Trejo is much more complicated than the legend.

Danny has a great story, no doubt about it. it was so hard to enjoy it fully though, simply because it sounded like it was being narrated by a student who was asked to read aloud a book which he had no knowledge of. I believe the stories are true, but the narration was very bad. I still enjoyed the book though. I just wish I'd gotten it in hard copy!

Story
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

I did not want it to end.
Reviewed: 04-15-24
My husband asked me if I'd listened to this one yet. We each listen to books before going to sleep. I hadn't. He gave me a quick synopsis and I ordered it immediately. Yeah we have separate accounts which kind of sucks but it is what it is. I started listening that very night and scarcely slept for interest in what would come next. I listened throughout a plane trip and back. I listened while walking my dog. I was just on a walk with him, and it ended just before getting home. Before I even realized it, I said aloud, "No! I don't want it to end!" then looked around hoping no one was watching or listening. Then I decided I just didn't care.
The best comparison I can make about how I felt about Demon Copperhead is, it's like McCourt's Angela's Ashes but set in Appalachia (which makes sense honestly). The character development is excellent. The writing sublime. The humor a perfect accompaniment. The narrator pitch perfect. This is the kind of novel of which I wish there were a bottomless pit, but which are actually too few and far between. I highly recommend it.

Story
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Good listen; compelling. Wrong Western NC accent!
Reviewed: 07-05-23
This is a really compelling listen. There are some issues with shallow characters and such but it keeps you hooked. The one thing that kept bugging me was, the (otherwise excellent) narrator had the western NC accent so thoroughly wrong it was almost comical. Black Mountain folks aren't old-money Savannah pre-Civil War lol. He should have done a little more homework to get that right.

Story
In this brave and moving memoir, Corey Feldman is revealing the truth about what his life was like behind the scenes: His is a past that included physical, drug, and sexual abuse, a dysfunctional family from which he was emancipated at age fifteen, three high-profile arrests for drug possession, a nine-month stint in rehab, and a long, slow crawl back to the top of the box office.

I hesitated to buy this title after reading some of the reviews. "He overdoes it. He makes stuff up. He uses excuses." blah blah blah. I could not disagree more. His voices are excellent and some are absolutely hilarious. The voice he does for his mother reminds me of the voice of the ancient woman ("start rubbing me with that chocolate you lazy Mary") in an episode of SpongeBob. I love that he put in such effort to make this a realistic and relatable listen.
My heart breaks for what this man endured as a child, yet he doesn't whine and cry and blame; he simply retells his life's story. It is very compelling. He lays it all out in such a way that you honestly feel like you're there with him for every one of the moments he relays.
What I love most about Corey is he refused to be cowed to the dark force that is Hollywood. He knew it would be awful for him to tell the truth. He knew he would catch hell. But the truth of what happens to child actors in Hollywood was more important to him than what people think of him, do to him, or say about him. Corey, I don't know if you read these, but if you do, please know that we see you. We see what you've been through and the honor and integrity you have. Don't listen to the @sses. The truth shines through to those whose hearts are open to it. The rest simply don't matter. You, my friend, are the real deal. You are the man.

A balanced account of game changes, conflicts and ambitions. The fall from popular grace of the previously adulated brother of the heir to the British throne as a consequence of his marriage to a beautiful and dynamic Hollywood starlet of colour makes for fascinating listening in best-selling royal author Lady Colin Campbell's balanced account. Lady Colin knows her royal history and psychology, and as the first seven years of her adult life were spent in the USA, she has a foot in both the American and British camps.

A masterpiece that combines the visions of four great Catholic mystics into one coherent story on the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Based primarily on the famous revelations of Venerable Anne Catherine Emmerich and Venerable Mary of Agreda, it also includes many episodes described in the writings of St. Bridget of Sweden and St. Elizabeth of Schonau.

In the tradition of Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes and Alice Taylor’s To School Through the Fields, Tom Phelan’s We Were Rich and We Didn't Know It is a heartfelt and masterfully written memoir of growing up in Ireland in the 1940s. We Were Rich and We Didn't Know It recounts Tom’s upbringing in an isolated, rural community from the day he was delivered by the local midwife. With tears and laughter, it speaks to the strength of the human spirit in the face of life's adversities.

A wonderful memoir narrated perfectly. A retelling of the life of an Irish farmer's son dotted with great humor, at times uproariously hilarious, and other times deeply moving. One is able to visualize each story in vivid detail while listening to this most talented narrator, whose various voices depict each character with perfect aplomb. I only wish I could listen again for the first time.
