I love this series. Every single book, forever and all time. That being said there’s one thing that annoys me: Inconsistency. I understand that morphing is based on DNA and demorphing and then remorphing can heal injuries on morphs, and it would make sense if it did to the true form too, but that wasn’t the rule that was established earlier in the series. The logic was that the morph is made up of the DNA, but the true form gets extruded into zero space and is not completely remade every time they demorph, therefore if, say, Rachel had a bad haircut she couldn’t fix it by morphing and demorphing, which was exactly what she pointed out in book 2. Or if Tobias had a broken wing in his hawk form every time he would morph and then demorph his wing would still be broken, which was the case in the Megamorph where they went back to the dinosaurs (I believe. I haven’t read that book in decades though. Lol).
And it’s not like it’s just a little detail. Every plot that has spun off of zero space owes itself to that rule. And that was the only reason zero space was brought up in the first place! Without it I’m sure Ms. Applegate would have found another way to introduce Z-space, but that way was just very natural.
I’m totally fine with the way it is now and that’s how I would have wanted it to be from the beginning, but it wasn’t. That’s the only hole I have ever found in this series and I’m happy to ignore the consistency, I just had to point it out. Lol.

I have loved the Animorphs books since they came out when I was in the 5th grade. I’m almost 40 now. These books handle topics that hit hard; death, violence, morality, divorce, stress, and the mental strain of dealing with it all. They were the first books that I read that showed that kids have every bit as much psychological strain as adults. Maybe even more so since kids don’t have the experience to tell them that they’ll get through it, as Jake’s mom points out in an earlier book. This book is masterful in how it shows the shift from subtle invasion to all-out war and juxtaposes it against the Civil War battle parallel. The narrator for the Civil War chapters is so good, and as a previous review states, makes us feel as if we’re reading a gritty historical novel.
It’s like in the Harry Potter series that started out with more of a child audience then as Harry grows and matures so do the books. And it’s only right that the big shift is on a Jake book.

I have loved Animorphs since they first came out when I was a kid. I have always like this one but the performance by Ramon De Ocampo really makes this book one of my favorites of the series! With William Roger Tenant’s southern accent and that chef’s over the top French accent I was rolling! So funny! And Marco is funny anyway, but the choices that Ramon makes are pure genius. I think he’s my favorite voice actor of the Animorphs audio books! I would listen to him read the dictionary!

I agree with the reviewer who said not to hesitate or overthink it, just get it! I’m usually the one who just cycles through a few of my favorite series and maybe a new book here or there but I’m very picky about spending my credits on unknown books. I really loved The Martian and loved Project Hail Mary even more and all for the same reasons. I found it so hard to stop listening to when I had to do other things like sleep and bathe. It made me laugh out loud many times and squeezed my heart also. I certainly look forward to whatever else Andy Weir comes up with! Get it Project Hail Mary. You won’t regret it.

I have been in love with this series since I was 12 years old when it first came out and there are many of the books that are about terrible battles and moral dilemmas, but this one is just fun! I love the 90’s pop culture references. Rachel, at one point, mentions Dr. Carter/Noah Wiley. Never really having watched a lot of TV medical dramas very much I thought maybe it was a Grey’s Anatomy character, but then I remembered that nope, this is the 90’s! That’s a character from ER! I always felt that those pop culture references and actual names of restaurants and stores and celebrities added realism and authenticity to the premise that this alien invasion is real.
