Story
The death of Lord Edward Crick has unleashed a torrent of gossip through the seedy taverns and elegant ballrooms of Oxfordshire. Few mourn the dissolute young man - except his sister, the beautiful Lady Lydia Farrell. When her husband comes under suspicion of murder, she seeks expert help from Dr. Thomas Silkstone, a young anatomist from Philadelphia. Thomas arrived in England to study under its foremost surgeon, where his unconventional methods only add to his outsider status. Against his better judgment, he agrees to examine Lord Edward’s corpse.

A liked this series! It's a little like Sherlock Holmes with medical stuff and I like both. I love the era and London setting. I think a little more romance would have been nice. Nothing wrong with a damsil in distress needing to be saved imo. Her character wasn't as weak as some say. Not all women want to be tough as a man, and don't mind being saved once in a while! The narrator is fantastic and versatile. I was sad for it to end and am looking for more like it.

Story
Master Hugh is making his way towards Oxford when he discovers the young Benedictine - a fresh body, barefoot - not half a mile from the nearby abbey. The abbey’s novice master confirms the boy’s identity: John, one of three novices. But he had gone missing four days previously, and his corpse is fresh. There has been plague in the area, but this was not the cause of death: The lad has been stabbed in the back. To Hugh’s sinking heart, the abbot has a commission for him....

Love the series but I can't change narrators after 6 books. Steven Crossley was the perfect narrator for this series, what happened? I just can't finish this series, it just so disappointing.

Story
Thomas atte Bridge, a man no one likes, is found hanging from a tree near Cowleys Corner. All assume he has taken his own life, but Master Hugh and Kate find evidence that this may not be so. Many of the town had been harmed by Thomas, and Hugh is not eager to send one of them to the gallows. Then he discovers that the priest John Kellet, atte Bridge’s partner in crime in A Corpse at St. Andrew’s Chapel, was covertly in Bampton at the time atte Bridge died.

Once I finished The Hangman's Daughter series I thought it would be impossible to find something else to capture my attention, I was wrong. I really like this series because I love the setting and the mystery. I don't think I would have liked it quite as much had it not been for Steven Crossley, the narrator, he has been superb! You really get a sense of which character is talking and he is consistent throughout the first six books.
Unfortunately I just started the 7th book and they have a new narrator. To my despair I'm not sure if I can go on with the series. I can't imagine why you would change the narrator in the middle of a series. I had an image of these characters in my mind and now it's a total mess, the narrator doesn't grasp the story. I still give it five stars because I don't want to take away from the original narrator. However, I am really disappointed!

Story
Alan, the beadle of the manor of Bampton, had gone out at dusk to seek those who might violate curfew. When, the following morning, he had not returned home, his young wife Matilda had sought out Master Hugh de Singleton, surgeon and bailiff of the manor. Two days later Alan’s corpse was discovered in the hedge, at the side of the track to St. Andrew’s Chapel. His throat had been torn out - his head was half severed from his body - and his face, hands, and forearms were lacerated with deep scratches.

Story
Germany, 1660: When a dying boy is pulled from the river with a mark crudely tattooed on his shoulder, hangman Jakob Kuisl is called upon to investigate whether witchcraft is at play in his small Bavarian town. Whispers and dark memories of witch trials and the women burned at the stake just seventy years earlier still haunt the streets of Schongau.

Best Series!

I really don't have room to write all the things I love about this series. Truly excellent and the narrator is perfect. I am listening to them again. Please Mr. Potzsch, write another series just like this! I'm Catholic with German ancestry, I love herbs and mysteries. Literally this series was written for me.
