Story
David Marquet, an experienced Navy officer, was used to giving orders. Marquet acted like any other captain until, one day, he unknowingly gave an impossible order, and his crew tried to follow it anyway. Marquet realized he was leading in a culture of followers, and they were all in danger unless they fundamentally changed the way they did things. Struggling against his own instincts to take control, he instead achieved the vastly more powerful model of giving control.

Great content

I enjoyed the material in the book and I found a number of things that will keep me thinking of how to apply them in my company.
My only complaint is that the narrator's voice and inflection reminded me of Jon Lovitz particularly when saying "Santa Fe" (sounded kind of like "that's the ticket.")

Story
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

From the master of alternate history comes an epic of the second Civil War. It was an epoch of glory and success, of disaster and despair. 1881: A generation after the South won the Civil War, America writhed once more in the bloody throes of battle. Furious over the annexation of key Mexican territory, the United States declared total war against the Confederate States of America in 1881.

I liked the idea of the twist on history and historical characters. The sexual content is unnecessary and I'm not really a fan of painting Lincoln as leaning socialist, but I suppose it works.
