Story
In this stunning audiobook, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous, and the most successful. He asks the question: What makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: That is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

Story
Kalinda has brought peace to the Tarachand Empire, at least for now. Bhutas no longer need to hide their gifts. The last of the rebels have been banished. And Prince Ashwin is set to take over as rajah. But for Kalinda, this came at a great loss. Her childhood home. Her best friend. The love of her life. Deven is still trapped in the Void, though he is able to find his way to Kalinda each night. He has been lucky so far—mortals are not meant to last in the Void for long, and Deven has lasted longer than most. But when he doesn’t visit one night, Kalinda knows that his luck has run out.

A beautiful end to a well woven story/stories, composed in an addictive series of books! Stories like this capture my attention and inspire me to read more.
I love many of these characters! Emily R King created realistic heroes, that are developed through their life events and their choices. (Displayed with emotion and vocal talent of Lauren Ezzo in the audio format. If you are not a reading fan, or can't find the time, grab the audio books!)
This book is consisting of:
A rebuilding kingdom.
A beloved trapt in the underworld.
The past revealed, influencing the present.
Fears being fed to the people about those with elemental powers.
A god's secrets.
Hope for a better future.
Fiery determination.
With many unexpected twists and turns in Kalinda (Kali), Deven and Ashwin's paths.
In "The Worrior Queen" find out these answers:
Will Deven come back from the underworld? Will Ashwin be able to become the ruler/leader that he wants to be?
Can Kalinda reclaim her destiny? Whom will Ashwin wed? Will Deven be the same soul who was swept down into the underworld? Will Kali control her destiny, or has it already been decided? What happened to characters that passed on? ...And many more.
Thanks Emily R. King for this inspired adventure!

Just as described:
This book is very English! Starts out a bit dry, but it is a solid mystery, with twists and depth. I enjoyed the action near the end and the mysteries letter leading to the next book! Other than the ending letter, there are little to no loose ends. < I admire that in a good mystery!!!

I loved the real feel of the Characters. Rarely are they singularly good or bad. It kept this reader questioning who is trustworthy. Other than the occasional backtracking to see how something "jumped " , I was driven forward in this book with genuine interest and excitement.
Take Note:
(I would not recommend for those under 14 yrs.)
*There is death with detailed description frequently in this series.
*I caught only one sexual reference (something said ,along the lines of... oh, we were not sleeping... followed with description of knowing looks/responses) and some kissing.

Long series...pointless./A written Soap Opera.
Reviewed: 06-04-18
The characters are mainly sketchy. I can't say that the Characters "developed" throughout the series. Theu only became more complex in a twisted way.
I like to see a couple main characters trying to achieve something to better themselves or others. The "womanizer" is the only character that seems to obtain some positive growth. It also reads like a jumpy soap opera.
The gods are vaguely explained, then covered with the blanket statement that mortals (including the reader/you) can't even start to fathom what the gods are or what they do. 😣😓 Yeah, I don't even know how to decribe the frustrations from that plot hole.
If you really want to read this:
Be prepared for tragic ends..... that mortals can't comprehend.

Charlie has a way of describing people, emotions and places into gracefully poetic stories. I love many of the Characters and their complexities in this book. This story has love, duty, faith, mystery, sorcery and hope. Charlie uses her gift of description to make you become emerged into this small town. The characters are well developed and their circumstances range from relatable to jaw dropping. The story (as well as the nesting dolls) have layers and I enjoyed opening this book to discover all of them!

Maire is a baker with an extraordinary gift: she can infuse her treats with emotions and abilities, which are then passed on to those who eat them. She doesn't know why she can do this and remembers nothing of who she is or where she came from. When marauders raid her town, Maire is captured and sold to the eccentric Allemas, who enslaves her and demands that she produce sinister confections, including a witch's gingerbread cottage, a living cookie boy, and size-altering cakes.

I only felt attachment to the old couple that took her in. There are so many names and places! I feel like I was reading various travel brochures, back to back, half of the time. The places were well described, but I wish there were only 4 instead of 10 or more. The revelations at the end were odd and didn't feel like any sufficient closure was given.
I liked the Paper Magician series and this wasn't as enjoyable. It is worth the read if you are a big fan of Charlie N. Holmberg... but it wasn't of my tea. To others that may have not been a fan of this book: Do not let this book discourage you from reading other books from Charlie N. Holmberg. 😉 It gets better!
