What a cute story!

Loved the premise of music being magic. It’s a kid’s story so some of the school drama and plot need to be taken in with that in mind. But I found it really enjoyable! I loved the way they added the musical parts in the background. I generally do NOT like when audiobooks do this as it adds no value, however here it really made sense and was very well done!

Story
The Trateri are about to learn a vital lesson of the Broken Lands. Deep in the remote expanse where anything can happen, it pays to be on a pathfinder's good side. Nobody ventures beyond their village. Nobody sane, that is. Monstrous creatures and deadly mysteries wait out here. Luckily for the people she serves, Shea's not exactly sane. As a pathfinder, it's her job to face what others fear and find the safest route through the wilderness. It's not an easy job, but she's the best at what she does.

Great story, explicit content though

The narrator was very good! As for the story: I enjoyed it, though the love story felt forced and improbable. And the sex scenes are quite explicit and almost felt pornographic, so if that’s not your cup of tea, def skip this one. It definitely felt unnecessary.
In any case, the rest of the story is intriguing and the main characters are certainly interesting. I’ll be getting book 2!

Cringe worthy

First off: the narration was really really good. I generally find multiple narrators overrated but it was very well done here.
Now on to the story. I was willing to put up with the god awful characters of Lisa Gardner’s DD. Warren Series until now (seriously, just dripping with stereotypes, not to mention that DD. Warren for some reason is always the LEAST likable character in the whole story).
I was willing to put up with it because I enjoyed the plot lines. It had been nothing groundbreaking but genuinely enjoyable. Until this book. But I mean, really? Now she got so lazy she’s going on with the supernatural theme? Just utterly ridiculous!
I’m def done with this series. :(

Story
Flynn is stuck - depressed, recently dumped, and living at his mom’s house. The supermarket was supposed to change all that. An ordinary job and a steady check. Work isn’t work when it’s saving you from yourself. But things aren’t quite as they seem in these aisles. Arriving to work one day to a crime scene, Flynn’s world collapses as the secrets of his tortured mind are revealed. And Flynn doesn’t want to go looking for answers at the supermarket. Because something there seems to be looking for him.

Worst audiobook so far
Reviewed: 04-17-19
I listen to almost an audiobook a day and this was by far the worst. The narration was fine but the story....
1) The protagonist sounds like a self-important spoiled whiny teenage boy. I understand his struggles are very real but he was written so poorly I hated him with passion.
2) The “plot twist” was so obvious and on the nose, even I saw it coming from the beginning. And I’m the idiot that NEVER sees plot twists coming. Now in a good book that should not actually spoil the story but there were so many hints and nudges that it felt like the author felt so damn smug and awesome for creating this stupid plot twist.
3) The dialogs were so fake and stilted it hurt. Trying so damn hard to be cool that it was just creepy.
The only reason I finished this book is my own stubbornness. I can’t believe that this has a 5 star rating. I feel offended by how bad this book is, honestly...

Story
Jane’s days at a Midwest insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. She’s just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likes - meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven. But plain Jane is hiding something. And Steven’s bringing out the worst in her.

Oh man! This was such a satisfying book. Super interesting because of the perspective of a sociopath who the author managed to make very likable somehow. And though Steve, the target of her revenge, was so overly terrible it was def cliche as hell it worked in favor of the story making her revenge just incredibly satisfying.
The narrator did have weird intonation (which was obvious from the sample so at least no nasty surprise). It wasn’t terrible but did kind of feel weird at times.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Ok this was just the worst. The “hero” is an idiot. The first half of the story is just like any story that focuses on the military. Replace the aliens with any other warring people on earth and you would not notice. While we’re talking about the aliens: really? Nodding and shaking your head is the same with aliens? It’s not even universal among different cultures here on earth? And skippy? While at least I kind of enjoyed the character, it’s definitely lazy story telling!
So in summary: no! Just no!
