I really disliked the narrator and wonder how she ever got hired. She consistently glottal stopped her t's, which is just bad enunciation and irritating for the listener. I hope she doesn't narrate book 2.

I didn't want this story to end. In 1985, when I was only 26 years old, my husband, a Vietnam vet, died from stomach cancer at the age of 38. Agent Orange was likely the cause. I'm 65 now and have lived a full life and don't think of those days often, so this read not only took me back, but gave me a new perspective on what it must have been like for him. He didn't speak of it often. I knew he had untreated ptsd the first time he hit the deck during a thunderstorm. Kristin Hannah, thank you for this book. It was hard, remembering his pain, but it was lovely remembering Charles and the few sweet years we had together.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it! This is the first book I've read by this author and will be looking for more by her. What made it more interesting for me is that it's based on a real person and thanks to her meticulous journaling we have some insight into what daily life was like for women of her time. Bravo!

So brave and important for Roger and Zachary to share their story. I was riveted from beginning to end. I felt both sad and angry and at times just nauseated. My husband and I own guns and stand for gun rights and ownership. And while I would never leave any firearm unlocked in my home with minors, I would never cast that stone. I sincerely hope Zachary's case is overturned.
