Decent, but a little too much "he just wins"

Overall a decent book, but there was a pretty severe lack of stakes/danger for the MC throughout most of it. I understand it's an OP Power Fantasy story and there were some sections where it actually felt like he was challenged properly. Still, it usually got ruined by an instant (or close enough) power-up to make it not a problem anymore.

Overall, a very good continuation of the series. They made it obvious a few books back that this arc was coming and I've genuinely looked forward to it ever since. Even though it's just an in-between arc, it has just as much meaning as each of the other books.

The first 3/4 of the book was pretty good, but it felt like it was just dragging on for the last few hours (about 4 or 5). I prefer fewer, longer books but there were a few places I felt they could've just cut forward a few minutes and nothing would've been missed. The ending also felt very flat and more like a smash cut than a scene transition.

Decent story, poor writing

I've listened to each book up to this point and overall, they're pretty good for a smaller writer; better than I'd normally expect. Unfortunately, this one let me down a bit. Without spoilers, many plot points seemed to be "I need to advance the plot and have no idea what to do" or "I want this thing to happen, but I don't know how to fit it into the story." That and the constant use of the same buzzwords over and over made the first three-quarters of the book feel like fan fiction from 2013. It recovered decently at the end and set up a good continuation, but the majority of the book just wasn't great. Series: 8/10 Book: 5/10
