Story
We live in a world obsessed with drinking. We drink at baby showers and work events, brunch and book club, graduations and funerals. Yet no one ever questions alcohol’s ubiquity—in fact, the only thing ever questioned is why someone doesn’t drink. It is a qualifier for belonging and if you don’t imbibe, you are considered an anomaly. As a society, we are obsessed with health and wellness, yet we uphold alcohol as some kind of magic elixir, though it is anything but.

Helped me quit drinking
Reviewed: 05-15-22
I read Holly’s book early into sobriety. It helped me see that there are lots of ways to quit drinking - not just AA. Listening to it early in helped keep me on the straight and narrow. If you need a nudge to help you give up drinking, this’ll definitely do it.

Story
Amani is hooked on a mystery - a poem on airmail paper that slips out of one of her father’s books. It seems to have been written by her grandmother, a refugee who arrived in Jordan during the First World War. Soon the perfect occasion to investigate arises: Her uncle Hafez, an advisor to the king of Jordan, invites her father to celebrate the king’s 60th birthday - and to fence with the king, as in their youth. Her father has avoided returning to his homeland for decades, but Amani persuades him to come with her.

Perfect Marriage of Prose and Performance

A great story, and a chance to travel to Jordan with Amani to dig up some long buried family secrets. The prose is gorgeous and the performance— wow — perfect accent for the characters and language. Don’t skip this one.

Story
In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.
