Story
Rejected at birth and raised in a village of tiefling misfits, Farideh expects a life without friends, love, or control over her destiny. Then she makes a pact with a devil named Lorcan, and everything changes. Lorcan promises all she ever dreamed of and asks for nothing in return. Her twin sister, Havilar, urges Farideh to resist the devil’s sway. But Farideh’s not so sure. Lorcan may be dangerous but the power he offers is exhilarating. In the ruins of Neverwinter, Farideh’s doubts get tangled up in a devilish snare six layers deep.

good faerun lore and well written, too bad for bad narration and the main characters flare for highschool drama..

Narrator is terrible. story is good aside from the overdramatic teenage stuff.. the lore and fights are fantastic. most characters are fine but occasionally get written into some awkward "highschool drama" corner .. slightly less so than the first book at least. my main gripe so far is with this narrator though .. just some wierd stresses on parts of a sentance, awkward pauses, only uses one voice for when any male character is mad, seems to exacerbate the characters immaturity at times .. at first I thought that it was just her choice of voice for Lorkin the Cambian but then it ended up being me disliking most of her choices for voices .. idk maybe its just me but I find myself rolling my eyes all too often at her readings.
overall its a good listen. worth toughing it out through all this. good story, big events happening to keep you engaged, lots of different points of intrigue .. its good.

mediocre at best

much the same as the previous two books the writing in this was pretty darn awful. Ed Greenwood is an amazing World Builder but not so much of a novelist. I will say however, that the ending to this book was superior to the previous two so I'll give it an overall better rating. still pretty bad though.

Story
The Time of Troubles had arrived. The chaos of spilled blood, lawless strife, monsters unleashed, and avatars roaming Faern had come. But wrathful and warring gods were not Faern's only problem. The dreaded and insidious Shadowmasters had seized the opportunity to increase their influence and power while Mystra and her minions were otherwise engaged. The Shadowmasters had woven a magical cloak of spells that would render the wearer invisible to their rival's magic.

poor writing, repetitive themes. I can't quite put my finger on it but everything I disliked from the first book was made way worse by this one. at least the story was slightly better but the awful writing made it almost unbearable. but I'm invested at this point so I'm going to read the third one and probably hate that too
