Anecdote
Reviewed: 12-03-17
Loved the book... loved with every fiber of my being, and that’s saying a lot since I normally do not read this type of book. However, performance-wise? An anecdote is an amusing, brief story, not a cure for poison; a cachet is a seal of approval, not a stockpile.
As Amren would say, “If you are not going to learn your vocabulary, at least learn how to read, girl.”
While we’re at it, bemused means confused, not amused. (But that’s not her fault, it’s in the book.)
Jennifer Ikeda was a much better narrator

Story
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Weber’s performance is just ... Wow
Reviewed: 09-29-17
King’s “It” needs no plug from me. It’s a classic, not my first read, won’t be my last. But, I had to pop in and express my admiration for Steven Weber. His narration was brilliant. It’s as close to a perfect performance as I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. His voices were so —real—. Pennywise was THE Pennywise, sardonic and cruel, the voice of deranged evil. I lost myself in the story—a story I’ve known a while—like I was experiencing it for the first time. Mr. Weber, I know you’ll never see this, but I am a convert. I’ll soon own all the books you’ve narrated.

Story
FitzChivalry - royal bastard and former king’s assassin - has left his life of intrigue behind. As far as the rest of the world knows, FitzChivalry Farseer is dead and buried. Masquerading as Tom Badgerlock, Fitz is now married to his childhood sweetheart, Molly, and leading the quiet life of a country squire. Though Fitz is haunted by the disappearance of the Fool, who did so much to shape Fitz into the man he has become, such private hurts are put aside in the business of daily life, at least until the appearance of menacing, pale-skinned strangers casts a sinister shadow over Fitz’s past...and his future.

So disappointed with performance! It's terrible

What did you like best about Fool's Assassin? What did you like least?
I love these stories. I read the multiple times. Robin Hobb is a genius. I will read them many more times in my lifetime I'm sure. This was the single worst performance by a voice actor I have ever come across.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Fitz because he is... Well... Fitz. I do like Bee, too, and the chapters where she is narrating are a very nice departure from always reading things from Fitz's p.o.v.
How could the performance have been better?
In just about every way possible. The Fool has a, I'm not quite sure, an Eastern European accent? It's just about the worst choice for his voice. In fact, I'm pretty certain he doesn't have an accent at all. What is the point of making him sound like the Russian mafia? Kettricken on the other hand has no accent and she clearly should. Everybody else's accents are extremely affected. Dutiful sounds like he has a pole shoved up his behind, Chade sounds like he's always choking on something, Bee always seems to be plagued with shock. I'm surprised she doesn't have extreme fits of hysteria pretty much all the time. Fitz is either completely monotone or enraged. It's all or nothing. Bee might say, "Papa, I don't feel like going to school today." And Fitz might respond, "BEE?!?!" as if she just confessed to killing someone. I could go on and I would, but you get the point, I get the point, everyone gets the point. This narration is... lacking.
Any additional comments?
I'm not going to buy the second book in this series and will just reread it instead. The first six books had really great narration, I loved Chade as a Scotsman. But this? I can't have my favorite characters ruined by a hack job.
