Story
Fourteen-year-old Mona isn't like the wizards charged with defending the city. She can't control lightning or speak to water. Her familiar is a sourdough starter, and her magic only works on bread. She has a comfortable life in her aunt's bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona's life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona's worries.

A very fun book.

The narrator did a great job at bringing the story and characters to life. It was funny and gripping, while unexpected at times. No real objectionable material (A little nondescript violence and peril) so good to listen to with the kids, yet interesting enough for the adults.

Story
Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

Book was well written, interesting and very funny. The narrator was amazing! My only complaint is that I started listening to it with my kids and the language is pretty rough. I wish it had a warning in the title description to let me know what to expect as far as content.

The book starts a little slow and is at times a little silly. But my kids loved it and have listened to it repeatedly (and also read it in book form.) As great as I think the book is it is still my least favorite in the series. Peter Sandon does a wonderful job. His rich bass voice is perfect for the story.

Would you listen to In the Hall of the Dragon King again? Why?
I enjoyed the audiobook, but I wouldn't listen to it again. The story was pretty good, and I usually really like Lawhead, but it really didn't pull me in. It seemed a little predictable, like I had heard some of it before. This will be the first time in a Lawhead series that I don't intend to continue reading the rest of the series.
What did you like best about this story?
The pace was just right not too fast or slow, I didn't feel bored while I listened.
Did Tim Gregory do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
The narrator did a good job, although some of his characters sounded similar, and when he read the part of the necromancer he did go a little over the top sometimes.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
For better or worse their were no real extremes, just middle of the road.
Any additional comments?
I'm not sorry that I took the time to listen and maybe the rest of the books in the series will be better, but I will need someone to highly recommend them before I am willing to risk my credits.

What did you love best about Guardian?
Even after this many installments the books still seem fresh and engaging. The story and the characters are progressing at a good rate. Campbell does a good job at not being too repetitive, which is amazing when you think about how much time they spend on the same ship.
What about Christian Rummel’s performance did you like?
Rummel is spot on, he gives each character their own voice, inflection and timing. It is very easy to get immersed in his narration.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There is definitely some humor in the book, mostly based on who the characters are and how their interactions play out.
Any additional comments?

An excellent conclusion!
Reviewed: 07-29-13
What made the experience of listening to Chasing the Prophecy the most enjoyable?
The author did a great job in bringing the series to a very satisfactory conclusion. There were plenty of surprises and yet they felt natural and not forced.
What did you like best about this story?
The way all the characters remained true to who they were, they felt very real and three dimensional.
Have you listened to any of Jeremy Bobb’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The reader was phenomenal, he really added something that made the story come alive.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not to give anything away but I loved the choices that the Rachel, Jason and especially Ferrin are faced with as the series closes. Their decisions and the subsequent consequences really draw the reader in and make you care about them.

Would you consider the audio edition of Stark's War to be better than the print version?
I felt the narrator did a good job and definitely added something to the story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Stark's War?
I don't want to give any spoilers, but it was fun to watch Stark find out who he really was.
Have you listened to any of Eric Summerer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
1st time I heard him. He did a good job, although sometimes his female voices sound a little funny. To his credit, there are very few narrators that can read opposite gender voices without it sounding at least a little off.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It was a pretty good "page turner".
Any additional comments?
Stark's war was an interesting read from Jack Campbell. Having listened to the Lost Fleet series it was hard not to compare this book with that series. Jack Campbell's writing and story telling have improved since this early attempt, but this is still worth the credit, I plan on listening to the rest of the series, and hope it will continue to just get better. Lastly, I appreciated that the book was still pretty family friendly, there is only minimal foul language and the violence wasn't too gratuitous. Thanks Jack & Audible!

Story
Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.
Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

I was pleasantly surprised at how engaging the story & characters were and how well the book was written. The author's emphasis on the value of morals, honor, mercy and the value of human life during war and even in the face of a cruel enemy was simple yet profound. It seemed very timely with so much of what is going on in the world today and in the military. Although the book deals with serious and mature material the book lacked any major profanity which allowed me to enjoy it with my kids in the back seat. I look forward to the next book.

At first I was a little apprehensive that the series was going to be simplistic and juvenille, but how wrong I was. Eye of the Oracle was very well written with good character development and an absolutely vast scope. The reader has a rich voice which really added a lot of feeling to the book. My only issue is that the ending was extremely compressed which felt forced (I think it is actually expanded on in the rest of the series). Overall a very worthwhile read, I can't wait for the rest of the series.
