It’s Slāken (not Slacken)

This continuation of The Endarian Prophecy is much more enjoyable with this new narrator, but his pronunciation of Blade’s blade is very distracting. Hopefully he gets it figured out before the next installment of the series.

Story
December 1943. In the years before the rise of Hitler, the Gerber family’s summer cottage was filled with laughter. Now, as deep drifts of snow blanket the Black Forest, German dissenter Franka Gerber is alone and hopeless. Fervor and brutality have swept through her homeland, taking away both her father and her brother and leaving her with no reason to live.

I've only just started listening to this book but I'll be switching over to reading. As others have said, the narrator is overly dramatic and seems to frequently drops the "s" from "she" which can be confusing. Listening to his voice for Franka makes me think I'm being read to by Norman Bates' mother. The story was recommended to me so I'm glad I have the option to read it instead of listening.

Missing MacLeod Andrews
Reviewed: 06-05-16
The change in narrator from the initial trilogies did this book a disservice. Hopefully Mr. Andrews will be brought back for the final 2 books of the series.

Good story; accent narration not so great.
Reviewed: 02-23-16
The first quarter of Rose Under Fire is pretty slow and I had a hard time getting into it. I'm also not a big fan of poetry within a story, although I should have been prepared for it as the book summary states that Rose is an amateur poet. I would probably have enjoyed the story more if it had been read by one or both of Code Name Verity's narrators. Sasha Pick's depiction of accents, and Rosia's voice in particular, was off-putting. Overall this is a good story, although I would recommend reading this one rather than listening to it.

Story
Code Name Verity is a compelling, emotionally rich story with universal themes of friendship and loyalty, heroism and bravery. Two young women from totally different backgrounds are thrown together during World War II: one a working-class girl from Manchester, the other a Scottish aristocrat, one a pilot, the other a wireless operator. Yet whenever their paths cross, they complement each other perfectly and before long become devoted friends. But then a vital mission goes wrong....

Friendship. Adventure. Intrigue. Survival. Heartbreak. This book has them all. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the narrators did a fantastic job.

Story
The year is 2322. Humanity has expanded into the stars, inhabiting over 100 worlds across a third of the galaxy. Though thriving as never before, they have discovered neither alien life nor the key to utopia. Earth struggles to retain authority over far-flung planets and free-wheeling corporations while an uneasy armistice with a breakaway federation hangs by a thread as the former rebels rise in wealth and power.

Wanted to like it, but couldn't get into the story line enough for it to outweigh the robotic reading.
