Story
Cohen Ford is a man who could do with a little bit of sweetening up. It’s no surprise that when he walks into The Great Greenwich Ice Creamery on a typically gloomy London day before Christmas, he insists on a black coffee rather than his childhood favourite – strawberry ice cream. But then he meets River de Luca, the woman behind the flavours. After their first encounter, Cohen begins visiting the ice creamery every Tuesday, gradually learning more about the intriguing River.

Liked everything except the narrator’s voice. He ‘came on’ too forceful. That is all I have to say.

I liked the story of his life except his treatment of his daughter. Immaturity does not cut it. If you are old enough to have children then you need to be a parent both physically and emotionally. I hope his daughter gave him hell for ignoring her for so long. Other than that, his life has been very interesting so far.

Story
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

A survey of the quirks and quandaries of the English language, focusing on our strange and wonderful grammar. Why do we say "I am reading a catalog" instead of "I read a catalog"? Why do we say "do" at all? Is the way we speak a reflection of our cultural values? Delving into these provocative topics and more, Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue distills hundreds of years of fascinating lore into one lively history.

New Orleans Version of Nancy Drew
Reviewed: 01-27-20
The descriptions of New Orleans were great. Well, except for one thing. When describing the long houses with maybe a hall down the side, or where you walk through each room to get to the back, we in New Orleans call them 'shotgun houses'. You can see a persons face light up when they receive that better description.
If you liked Nancy Drew books as a preteen, you will like this book. It does seem inconceivable to me that the story could be believable that a teenager could figure out the mystery and an adult could not. Plus, what teenager has over $600.00 in a savings account and can cash it out immediately? I sure do not know any unless they are rich.
Overall, it was a cute book.

Not What It Was Advertised To Be
Reviewed: 06-23-19
I need a book for the whole family (including grandchildren) to listen to while we are driving on our vacation. This book was advertised as a musical adventure with time travel to include jazz, and music from Mozart as well as Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles. The advertisement sounded perfect. It is a good thing that I listened to the book before I left. There was VERY LITTLE music. Occasionally, a VERY FEW bars could be heard. Did I say VERY FEW bars??? It was a typical time travel story and it was boring. It would have insulted my 11 and 15 year old grands to have to listen to it. I do not recommend it!! If I could give it less than a star for each category, I would.
Unfortunately, the audible originals have been uninteresting for the past few months. They may be free but most are not even worth your time.
