Hogan certainly did it again in this riveting sequence that started with his Revenant Series. I love that this book was written from a non traditional character pov. After Revenant, the readers wonder how things will turn out for the future and Mitchell doesnt disapoint. I loved the world building, going through great fight scenes, never felt a dull moment. There was a little bit of something for everyone here. Intriguing magic system, a bit of a mystery trying to be solved with the overall main character and his relationship to the mistress and what her intentions are, adventure, touch of romance. Such a great story, cant wait for the next one if he gets to continue the series, and the ending I especially loved! I did not expect it to end the way that it did and I read a LOT of fantasy.

Where does Fight and Flight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I think this is my favorite by far because you really know all the characters now and the writer no longer has to describe them to you. There may not be a devious fiend l but I feel like I really enjoy that because the bad guy isn't trying so hard to wreck everybody in the book. The characters problem solved and have fodder amongst themselves. I love their conversations and jokes. Another thing that really makes it a great experience is that Luke Daniels really does a good job bringing each character to live and making every attitude and personality separate.

What other book might you compare Fight and Flight to and why?

I really like the iron druid series and would say it's closest to this because both authors tend to keep things light tight and bright. There is always hope and the characters are always so funny and witty. The women are usually bad ass heroines and there are so many pop culture references that bring entertainment and comedy to the fantasy aspect of the book.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to almost all of them and to be honest I wouldn't have enjoyed this series near as much without him bringing the characters to life and cracking me up so much.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Every day all day. It makes me feel good, like a basket full of puppies, or watching the whole series of the big bang theory, or Community, or having a bad ass cup of coffee.

Any additional comments?

I see so many negative reviews about this book and I really don't see why so many people want to hate on this book. Yeah, it's not as intense as a lot of urban fantasy or sci fi novels, but it wasn't meant to be. It was meant to be a quick happy funny fantastical read. Stop comparing this book to the others because the story dynamic over all is so different and the way to solve the problems in the book are different as well. Gary and Tyler as a team are my favorite thing right now. Scott did great. More please.

Best opening sentence ever! Witty banter. Hilarious characters. Narrator does the best job. Seriously, the book just wouldn't be the same without him.

Was not what I was hoping it would be. I was more interested in an in depth history of ISIS and the war on Syria and Iraq. This is more of a wave top overview of where ISIS came from and a conservative critique of the Obama Administration.

I was certainly hoping for a more scholarly/historical analysis with little to no bias. This is NOT it. The author gives unneeded criticism to the Obama administration so much so that it breaks up the narrative to give his jabs. Even seems to be a climate change denier.

If you are looking for an informative book on current events, this is not it. If you are a conservative pundit this is a book for you. If not, move on.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Wish it were longer. It was an engaging listen.

What did you like best about this story?

Good start to the series so far. Read the rest of them and will buy the audiobooks as they come out. Suspenseful and lots of nice plot twists.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Pretty much, Exxept he needs to practice more of a French accent. His Russian one is good though.

Do you think Return of the Phoenix needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Heck yeah! It's just the first in the series and it ends at a cliffhanger, so if you were like me and listened to it while on a long road trip with no wifi around to download another book to keep your mind off all the what-will-happen-next, you'll go crazy.

Any additional comments?

Underrated author. Pretty good stuff. Not the same writing style as Larry Correia but everyone who lives a good underdog story and propaganda, give it a shot. Not to mention the action scenes and a bit of everything in there for the people who like other genres too.
