Totally forgettable
Reviewed: 06-04-17
I knew I didn't like this book but although I only read it a couple of weeks ago, it is so forgettable I had to re-listen to the end to remember why I was so so unimpressed. As far as I am concerned although the reader did a good job, the book had no redeeming qualities.

Story
It's a summer's evening in Amsterdam, and two couples meet at a fashionable restaurant for dinner. Between mouthfuls of food and over the polite scrapings of cutlery, the conversation remains a gentle hum of polite discourse - the banality of work, the triviality of the holidays. But behind the empty words, terrible things need to be said, and with every forced smile and every new course, the knives are being sharpened. Each couple has a 15-year-old son. The two boys are united by their accountability for a single horrific act; an act that has triggered a police investigation and shattered the comfortable, insulated worlds of their families.

I kept hoping this book would get better so kept listening but it went from bad to worse. I would never get into a discussion of this book unless it is to advise someone that the premise sounds good, but the story has no redeeming value.

I should have read the information more closely
Reviewed: 01-22-17
I have read all of John Grisham's book and buying this "prequel" was a mistake. I had already listened to the Whistler. To me this book should have been part of the Whistler because it only talks about one of the Whistler characters, he is convicted and it is over. I already knew he was convicted. I read the real book.
I think I resent having used a credit to purchase this book.

I liked the story and really like the reader. Because I have listened to Alex Delaware novels for years, in the beginning I had to keep reminding myself the hero was NOT Alex Delawre. But I will happily read a follow up book with the same reader.

On the right side of the law. Sort of. Sebastian Rudd is not your typical street lawyer. He works out of a customized bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun compartment, and a heavily armed driver. He has no firm, no partners, no associates, and only one employee: his driver, who's also his bodyguard, law clerk, confidant, and golf caddy.

Steve is hell's super, its handyman. Being Mr. Fixit to the underworld keeps him and his assistant, Orson Welles (yes, that Orson Welles), pretty busy, since things go on the blink all the time down there. No malfunction has ever created so much inconvenience, though, as the malfunction of hell's escalator, which leads from the pearly gates to the depths of Hades. What's worse: The breakdown appears to be sabotage.

The revised version no longer has Bible by Books
Reviewed: 08-21-15
I purchased the entire NIV Listeners Bible in 2012 and because of its length downloaded only a few books at the time. I started a new Bible Study this past summer and discovered the "Books" are no longer available. The Bible has now been broken down into "parts." It is a rare person who would pick up the Bible and read straight through. The ability to use "Books" as reference is key to using the Bible. I cannot use this version. It may be 75 hours long, but I have no idea which part or which hour I need to watch to read Lamentations or Conrinthians or Job or Psalms or any other particular Book. It is useless.

and to me the books was boring. Also the reader was better in the 2nd half, but in the first half I reset my iPod thinking I had hit the wrong speed for playback because he read so fast. So many of your readers have a range of voices I get spoiled. The names were unusual and without a distinction in the voice, I had trouble keeping the characters straight for a long time. A real bone digger might find the book great. It was not for me.
