Story
Inspired by the extraordinary true stories of World War II’s American Army nurses famously known as the Angels of Bataan and the unsung contributions of Filipinas of the resistance, this novel transports us to a remarkable era of hope, bravery, perseverance, and ultimately—victory.

Excellent Story! (Spoiler!! Sort of)

I so appreciate the author taking the time to write a story based in the pacific. This part of the war often gets looked over. The story was excellent, often times it felt real, though it’s a fictional story based on a war that was very raw and real. My only criticism, was the ending was just a bit corny, just didn’t feel like it matched the realness of the story. But, overall, this was such a good read. Both performances by the narrators were wonderful! I didn’t want this book to end, can’t recommend enough!

This book had so much potential. The first chapter was just a repetition of the same information, it felt this way throughout the rest of the book as well. I kept waiting for it to get interesting and every time it seemed like it would, it plateaued. I thought it was odd that it was being narrated by a man when it’s a story full of WOMEN. Not my favorite book, can’t say I’d read it again.

Story
Beginning on August 17, 1942, American heavy bomber crews of the Eighth Air Force took off for combat in the hostile skies over occupied Europe. The final price was staggering. 4,300 B-17s and B-24s failed to return; nearly 21,000 men were taken prisoner or interned in a neutral country, and a further 17,650 made the ultimate sacrifice. Luck of the Draw is more than a war story. It’s the incredible, inspiring story of Frank Murphy, one of the few survivors from the 100th Bombardment Group, who cheated death for months in a German POW camp.

An honor to listen to Frank’s story. He gave great due credit to the men of the 8th Air Force in his account.
