Story
Right after the sudden death of her mother—her first and most devoted fan—and just before the launch of her high-stakes sophomore album, Greta James falls apart on stage. The footage quickly goes viral and she stops playing, her career suddenly in jeopardy—the kind of jeopardy her father, Conrad, has always predicted; the kind he warned her about when he urged her to make more practical choices with her life.

Family dynamics in love and song

I enjoyed this book. but several plot points seemed unlikely. For example, I can't imagine a professional musician not practicing at all for the entire week leading up to a big "comback" performance.

Story
Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

Being a fan of Brian Cranston's work, I looked forward to listening to him narrate his autobiography, A Life In Parts. I was not dissatisfied. I particularly appreciated the insight into his process for developing and inhabiting characters.

Story
Growing up Black in rural North Carolina, Ray McMillian’s life is already mapped out. But Ray has a gift and a dream—he’s determined to become a world-class professional violinist, and nothing will stand in his way. Not his mother, who wants him to stop making such a racket; not the fact that he can’t afford a violin suitable to his talents; not even the racism inherent in the world of classical music.

Wonderful audiobook!

Loved this audiobook! Ray's story is so compelling, and the clips of classical music featuring violin are a lovely addition. I love classical music, although i don't play an instrument, but i had never given much thought to the dearth of black classical musicians. This book opened my eyes (and ears) to the obstacles and trials for people of color in this profession.
I am very stingy with 5 star reviews. I initially gave this audiobook 4 stars, only because the culprit seemed obvious to me. But 4 stars didn't reflect my enjoyment of the book, and you can't give 4.75 stars, so I rounded up!
