Story
The red night of bells heralds global catastrophe. Annihilation on a biblical scale. Seeing the morning is no blessing. The handful of scattered survivors are confronted by blood-red skies and an infestation of predatory horrors that never originated on earth. An occupying force intent on erasing the remnants of animal life from the planet. Across the deserted landscapes of England, bereft of infrastructure and society, the overlooked can either hide or try to outrun the infernal hunting terrors. Until a rumour emerges claiming that the sea may offer an escape.

The MC was annoyingly weak. He could not see the dangers of an antagonist, despite it being glaringly obvious. Continuously made bad decisions and risked children’s lives.

Story
Nyx was born Hollow. An empty vessel in a world of spirits. Normally, that was a death sentence, yet somehow he survived. He's always been stubborn like that. He's also always been a bit crazy. Which is why, in another life, he did something reckless. He sent himself a message—his memories. Threw them into the Flow from which all spirits return. Besides, Nyx believed in asking hard questions. Like, was reincarnation real?

Horrible Characters
Reviewed: 10-14-24
I was continuously astounded by the stupidity of the characters. Their constant poor choices and fear of harming zombies (yes) caused many of them to die. I tried to finish it but after getting 2/3 of the way through with characters getting no wiser I was done.

Tired of Religious Crazies
Reviewed: 02-15-24
I am tired of these kinds of books constantly utilizing crazy religious people as the source of problems. it is an old, overused trope that is easier to use rather than creating complex enemies with varied moral foundations. This series started off well until it got to that point where the Archetypal crazy Christians became the center of attention. This shows, in my opinion, a lack of creativity on the part of the author.

It’s Ok
Reviewed: 08-09-23
This is another case of someone who does not fully research the religious materials. He speaks of form & function and states that Genesis 1 is about function more than material creation, then he goes about utilizing the Genesis narrative in a literal, material manner for specific items.

It started in the Middle East. A flu-like plague that infected thousands and killed roughly 10 percent of its victims. Those who died awoke once again, but they were no longer among the living - they came back as soulless, carnivorous corpses who desired only one thing: to feed on living human flesh. The citizens of Single Tree, California, want the stenches and those fleeing them to ignore the town long enough for it to be transformed.... But time is not on their side.

Story ok; narrator good
Reviewed: 07-20-23
The story, overall, wasn’t overly unique. There are other zombie apocalypse, book series that are better. However, you can only do so much with the same subject matter and I can see where it would be very difficult to come up with something unique. From that perspective, the writer did a good job and the narrator did a good job in providing some comic relief from the way that he acted out some of the characters. Overall, it was decent and worth the listen.
