Story
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

Story
The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

The 2nd part was fast moving and thought provoking. I struggled a bit with the AI sounding reader in part 1. But overall I enjoyed the writing.

Not sure what the author had intended when noting this book as a “bedtime” story. The writing was good but the performance left me anxious. I was hoping for relaxation.

Twisted entertainment by a brilliant mind
Reviewed: 09-09-16
I loved this book for the many twists and turns. Stephen King has such a deliciously twisted mind and delivers the message through words so perfectly. I found myself asking, "how does he gone up with this stuff?" Scary yet unrealistic yet maybe yet now at yet possible! Great road trip novel easy to get into easy to walk away and come to and overall entertaining.
