Good story but the emails don't really read well
Reviewed: 07-09-22
Once I got used to her, good narrator. Story is good but probably would be better read on Kindle as it has lots of included emails. The headers get read, which is good in someways but takes away from the flow of the story. Excellent backstory.

This was not anywhere near like the books.. It's a short novella set in 3 pines with inspector Gamesh but lacks character depth and is an easy plot

l like the characters more with each book. they lack perfection, making them both more real and more complex. the mystery is equally captivating; you get all the clues but you have to think about the personalities to put it together

No outsiders are ever admitted to the monastery of Saint-Gilbert-Entre-les-Loups, hidden deep in the wilderness of Quebec, where two dozen cloistered monks live in peace and prayer. They grow vegetables, they tend chickens, they make chocolate. And they sing. Ironically, for a community that has taken a vow of silence, the monks have become world-famous for their glorious voices, raised in ancient chants whose effect on both singer and listener is so profound it is known as “the beautiful mystery.”

Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Story
In Jasper Fforde's Great Britain, circa 1985, time travel is routine, cloning is a reality (dodos are the resurrected pet of choice), and literature is taken very, very seriously. England is a virtual police state where an aunt can get lost (literally) in a Wordsworth poem and forging Byronic verse is a punishable offense. All this is business as usual for Thursday Next, renowned Special Operative in literary detection.
