True story about a mass school shooting
Reviewed: 01-01-12
This is an incredible account of a terrible tragedy--a mass shooting of classmate, that took place in a school in Colorado. It portrays the feelings and thoughts of some of the victims. I may read this book again, someday.

People starting out in business tend to seek step-by-step formulas or specific rules, but in reality there are no magic bullets. Rather, says veteran entrepreneur Norm Brodsky, there's a mentality that helps street-smart people solve problems and pursue opportunities as they arise. He calls it "the knack" and it has made all the difference to the eight successful start-ups of his career.

A good read, but doestn' stick in my mind
Reviewed: 01-01-12
I did read this book less than a year ago, but I had to re-read the review by the publisher to remember it. The story is fine and it is a good read. But it was just not memorable, and I don't want to read it again.

The author did an incredible job writing this book based on a meticulous review of media reports. It is documented throughout with quotes from published sources. It was very interesting at first, but I tired of Oprah's story after a while, and just stopped reading.

Story
1934 Chicago dazzles with fast action and calculating, cold-blooded meanness as private detective Nate Heller combs Chicago’s North Side looking for John Dillinger. But things take a turn for the strange when self-aggrandizing G-Man Melvin Purvis shoots down a Dillinger double in front of the Biograph Theater. Full of muscle and oozing Chicago’s tough-guy persona to the hilt, Max Allan Collins’ Nate Heller is the ultimate private investigator.

Historical Fiction. This sequel is every bit as good as the first book in the Nathan Heller series. It continues the story of this fictional detective's inside story of mob life in Chicago in the early and mid 20th century.

Inside account of historical Chicago mob life
Reviewed: 01-01-12
I loved this book. It is set in Chicago during the years of the mob and corruption. It is a work of historical fiction, where the main character, is an ex-policeman, self employed detective as adventures that highlight mob life and Chicago politics of the early and mid 20th century. It proposes alternative theories to explain real circumstances. Great fun!
I'm looking forward to the rest of this brilliant series.

A fantastical monologue on a mundane lived life
Reviewed: 01-01-12
This is an "off beat commentary" of a young japanese man who has a rich inner life. It is fantastical but it captures the mundane thoughts we all have much of the time. It is brilliant in presenting metaphors in different forms and in weaving the occult with the real. I read the entire first section and part of the second before becoming tired of the story. There is really no story - just the ongoing commentary of the lived life of the main character. I will pick the book up later, to read more, as the mood strikes.
