Republicans are in a losing period. The last election should have been a wake-up call for the current moment. If the GOP wants to turn its luck around, it’s time to toss the old playbook and find new ways to win elections and attract enthusiastic voters. Like a well-timed coaching hire, Clay Travis is here to break down exactly how the Republican party can turn a few losing seasons into a championship run, and provides a surefire gameplan inspired by winning strategies in sports that will finally give conservatives an edge over the competition.

Miracle and Wonder: Conversations with Paul Simon is part memoir, part investigation, and unlike any creative portrait you’ve ever heard before. Recorded over a series of 30 hours of conversation between Simon, Gladwell, and Gladwell’s oldest friend and co-writer, journalist and Broken Record podcast co-host Bruce Headlam, the conversation flows from Simon’s music, to his childhood in Queens, NY, to his frequent collaborators including Art Garfunkel and the nature of creativity itself.

Gives some insight on J6
Reviewed: 11-04-23
The J6 committee in congress was very biased and intentionally avoided presenting all the facts. Specifically they avoided any reference to the failures of Nancy Pelosi and the involvement of the FBI. This book gives the reader many more facts. It would have been better with a professional reader.

Story
For over a decade, philosopher and energy expert Alex Epstein has predicted that any negative impacts of fossil fuel use on our climate will be outweighed by the unique benefits of fossil fuels to human flourishing--including their unrivaled ability to provide low-cost, reliable energy to billions of people around the world, especially the world’s poorest people. And contrary to what we hear from media “experts” about today’s “renewable revolution” and “climate emergency,” reality has proven Epstein right.

Story
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

Story
Amos Decker witnesses a murder just outside FBI headquarters. A man shoots a woman execution style on a crowded sidewalk, then turns the gun on himself. Even with Decker's extraordinary powers of observation and deduction, the killing is baffling. Decker and his team can find absolutely no connection between the shooter - a family man with a successful consulting business - and his victim, a schoolteacher.

Unimpressive!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. The writing is only slightly more advanced than a Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew mystery. It's so unnecessarily long it feels like he's being paid by the word with no concern for writing a tight story. Much of the story line is illogical. It did not lead the reader to a conclusion but instead was filled with speculation until the author finally wrote a conclusion, mostly out
of thin air. Some of the characters are unnecessary and none are compelling. The readers didn't have much to work with but they did nothing to add to the quality of the story.
Would you recommend The Fix to your friends? Why or why not?
No. See above.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The story and the narration were average at best so I guess they were pretty well matched.
Did The Fix inspire you to do anything?
It inspired me not to read or listen to any more David Baldacci novels.

Story
Flowers is only in his late 30's, but he's been around the block a few times, and he doesn't think much can surprise him anymore. He's wrong. It's a hot, humid summer night in Minnesota, and Flowers is in bed with one of his ex-wives (the second one , if you're keeping count ) when the phone rings. It's Lucas Davenport. There's a body in Stillwater, two shots to the head, found near a veterans' memorial. And the victim has a lemon in his mouth.

Story
Two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize David McCullough tells the dramatic story behind the story about the courageous brothers who taught the world how to fly: Wilbur and Orville Wright.
On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Wilbur and Orville Wright's Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. The Age of Flight had begun. How did they do it? And why?

Would you listen to The Wright Brothers again? Why?
I would and probably will. This was a much more interesting story than I thought it would be.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wright Brothers?
I had know idea our own government was so reluctant to acknowledge the Wright brother's accomplishments.
What about David McCullough’s performance did you like?
He did a good job but it was enhanced by knowing he had done the research and writing himself.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
I had only a basic knowledge of the Wright brothers before listening to this book. There was so much more to learn that I was sorry when the book came to an end.

Story
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.
