Story
In 2019, author John Green met Henry Reider, a young tuberculosis patient at Lakka Government Hospital in Sierra Leone. John became fast friends with Henry, a boy with spindly legs and a big, goofy smile. In the years since that first visit to Lakka, Green has become a vocal advocate for increased access to treatment and wider awareness of the healthcare inequities that allow this curable, preventable infectious disease to also be the deadliest, killing over a million people every year. In Everything Is Tuberculosis, John tells Henry’s story.

Story
Yetu holds the memories for her people - water-dwelling descendants of pregnant African slave women thrown overboard by slave owners - who live idyllic lives in the deep. Their past, too traumatic to be remembered regularly, is forgotten by everyone, save one - the historian. This demanding role has been bestowed on Yetu. Yetu remembers for everyone, and the memories, painful and wonderful, traumatic and terrible and miraculous, are destroying her. And so, she flees to the surface, escaping the memories, the expectations, and the responsibilities.

Story
In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a Black African father and a White American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a Black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father - a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man - has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey - first to a small town in Kansas, and then to Kenya....

This was a fascinating memoir. Hearing Obama curse was also awesome. The addition of the keynote address at the end was a nice touch.
I miss President Obama so much.

Wow! I absolutely adored this book. my only regret is that I waited so long to give it a go. It's literally been sitting in my library FOR YEARS. What is wrong with me?
This look inside one of the greatest cult classics is wholly entertaining. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Story
It starts with a simple favor - an ordinary kindness mothers do for one another. When her best friend, Emily, asks Stephanie to pick up her son, Nicky, after school, she happily says yes. Nicky and her son, Miles, are classmates and best friends, and the five-year-olds love being together - just like she and Emily. A widow and stay-at-home mommy blogger living in woodsy suburban Connecticut, Stephanie was lonely until she met Emily, a sophisticated PR executive whose job in Manhattan demands so much of her time. But Emily doesn't come back.

What In The World
Reviewed: 02-26-19
What in the world did I just read? The first half of this book really had me going. I for sure thought there was a Single White Female thing happening, and then the twist happened. Then another twist.
Someone else mentioned how they hoped there had been just one more twist coming at the end, and I agree. Even if the ending wasn't "just desserts," I felt that the book ended abruptly, like I needed one more chapter from either Emily or Stephanie.

This book messed me up in this philosophical, existential way. For a story/podcast that is built on this nonsensical world of Nightvale, there are so many nuggets of wisdom and epiphany. It made me consider my own worldview and perspectives on parenting, growing up, childhood, adulthood, and relationships.
At the same time, you don't have to think about or consider any of that in order to have a crazy good time listening to this book. My personal favorite scenes take place in the library.

Story
When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a teenager with an all-consuming crush on her costar, Harrison Ford.

I absolutely adored this memoir, especially as told by Carrie Fisher. Her perspective on the phenomenon that is Star Wars, her relationship with Harrison Ford, and signing autographs at conventions is fascinating, funny, and endearing. The addition of her diaries from the filming of Star Wars provides a never before seen look into the past through the eyes of a 19-year-old girl.
