Nothing exciting happened in this book. No unexpected twists and turns. But it was very enjoyable listen. The Narrator did such an amazing job of bringing every character to life. I enjoyed spending time with them every day.

Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. I enjoyed the storyline, but it was drug out too long imo. I cared for the characters, but not enough to listen to the last 2 1/2 hours. I skipped to the end with no regrets.

Silly female lead character
Reviewed: 08-11-23
I've been a fan of J Frost for a long time, but this female lead character just drives me crazy. She's supposedly almost 5k years old, but acts so childish. I liked the male lead character slightly more.

Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Sweet Story

A very sweet story! The Audible narration is a little slow for me, but it was perfect at 1.15x. It was the perfect story to read when taking a break from heavier story-lines or books in a long series.

The vampire Wulfe is missing. Since he’s deadly, possibly insane, and his current idea of “fun” is stalking me, some may see it as no great loss. But, warned that his disappearance might bring down the carefully constructed alliances that keep our pack safe, my mate and I must find Wulfe—and hope he’s still alive. As alive as a vampire can be, anyway.

I can't get enough of this series. Lorelei King is a brilliant narrator that makes these characters alive in my mind and memory, no matter how long I have to wait between books. Each character has been so well developed that I miss them when the book is over. And the world building has been so complete that I feel like it's my reality while listening to the books.

Wren Blythe has long enjoyed being among the Northwoods, helping her father with programming at a youth camp. But when a little girl in the area goes missing, an all-out search ensues, reviving the decades-old campfire story of Ava Coons, the murderess, who still roams the woods. Joining the search, Wren stumbles upon the Coons cabin ruins and a rotting porcelain doll. But even more terrifying is seeing her name etched on the doll's foot like a sinister omen.

I love the clean writing style. It's so refreshing to read a book with Christian themes, but not "churchy"! The narrator wasn't my favorite. The speech pattern was drug out waaaayyy too slow and over the top dramatic. However, it was made tolerable by adjusting the narration speed on the Audible app to 1.20x.
