Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Probably my favorite book the last year. It's funny, tense and uplifting. The science is a little bit whack but it didn't bother me much. Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell :)

Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

Good characters, weird quasi-history/linguistics

Awesome and to me, original world where the USA is gone, replaced by an entertaining ensemble of corporations.
Really cool characters, especially YT and Raven.
The story is interesting and thriller-like, but told in funny language that I enjoyed.
There are some weird chapters linking Snow Crash to Mesopotamia in overly detailed ways that are just gibberish to me. The story would function fine without it, and tbh you can probably just skip the chapters with the Librarian.

Slow start but then it gets extremely tense
Reviewed: 05-07-21
I found the main plot of this book to be a bit childish in a way (I'm 24). And the love story was not believable to me. But the book had it's gripping moments. The side characters also felt very underdeveloped. And I couldn't relate to many of the locations chosen. It was interesting to have a protagonist that was so vulnerable emotionally. It was somewhat entertaining but I didn't get much more out of it than that.

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me. So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Story
Models is the first book ever written on seduction as an emotional process rather than a logical one, a process of connecting with women rather than impressing them. It's the most mature and honest guide on how a man can attract women without faking behavior, without lying and without emulating others. A game-changer.

Needed moral compass adjusted, dissapointed
Reviewed: 10-29-18
I bought this book because I am becoming a higher value man, and with great power comes great responsibility. I was hoping the book would calibrate my moral compass. How do i treat a woman when I have the power, even early in the relationship?
The book had a few aha-moments. I related to beeing the type that doesn't care because I'm used to beeing alone and forging my own way already. Then having trouble connecting. My BIGGEST takeway, was that I should stop just listening when having a conversation. But also sharing. Because that leads to deeper connection. And I need that in my friendships too.
The section about female sexuality was interesting. He mentioned physicality, and I think there are much better sources on this. For me, beeing around "the perfect man" in real life this summer was much more valuable, eye-opening, and inspiring. You could find something similar on YouTube.
This book is perfect for someone who is clueless yet highly motivated. I found 85% of it to already be a part of me or my goals. And I started improving myself conciouly 3 years ago.
Still, I finished it despite being partly bored, so the book must be well written outside of just the content.

Story
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

After I got over the deliberate accented narration, this story really captivated me. Interesting characters and world. Even though it is far future sci-fi from the 70s/80s it still feels realistic and grounded. I was rooting for the colonists all the way.

I wish I read it in stead of listening
Reviewed: 04-16-18
I enjoyed the anecdotes and scientific citations. Not so much the religious excerpts, because they were too vague and Petersons interpretations sometimes far fetched.
My main takeaway was speaking precisely and thruthfully. I've also started sorting out the little things that annoy me. I also quite liked one of the later chapters where he adresses the radical left among other things.
I wish I read this in stead of listening because there is so much to organise in my brain and it would have helped with that. I would however have lost Petersons narration, which is very good, and when talking about difficult personal stories, emphasized with real emotion.
4/5 due to some parts dragging out and losing the red thread.

Story
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.
