I don't know how Seth pulled it off, but somehow this man has brought zombies, ninjas, and humor into Lizzy's world and yet it is still Pride and Prejudice. Mr.Bennett is hilarious with his treatment of his annoying prattling wife, Darcy is forced into a battle of ninja skills with Lizzy as she declines his marriage proposal, and somebody close to Lizzy is bitten and infected with the 'Strange Plague'. The Bennett sisters are practically the designated ninja death squad of the countryside. On top of all that, Katherine Kellgren's pompous English tea time voice adds just that right touch to the story to make it inconceivably more hilarious! This is possibly one of the coolest books ever now. I don't think high school English class will ever be the same!

Enjoyable

I had not read any of Frank Herbert's novels but I had seen the Dune movies. I could understand the gist of what was going on in this book so I don't think first time listeners would have a problem just jumping in. I hate Scott Brick as a narrator and had they chosen someone else I would have given this book 5 stars. I have heard from hard core fans of the Dune saga that Frank Herbert's tyle of writing was much better than his son's so if you too are a huge fan of Frank I would not recommend listening to this one, might just disappoint you.

Abandoned by her mother, ignorant of her father's identity, Lirael resembles no one else in her large extended family living in the Clayr's glacier. She doesn't even have the Sight, the ability to See into the present and possibly futures, that is the very birthright of the Clayr.

I loved every minute of this book. The characters were just jumping out at me and as crazy as it sounds even 'Dog' was believable, but I guess that is just one of Garth Nix's gifts. He has an amazing way of making magical things seem absolutely lifelike. If you liked the first book 'Sabriel', I urge you to continue with the trilogy and give this one a shot.

Yet another example of a book that is so bad it deserves zero stars. It's story is meant to be depressing but the characters are so dull and unrealistic that it is impossible to feel for them. Don't waste your credit on this one, you'll only regret it as I did.

The dialogue used in this book was just a little bit too old fashioned to make me feel connected in any way. It was hard to get into the book. I liked the overall story but I think it is better as a movie rather than listened to here.

Why oh why can't they translate the French in the novel while they're tranlsating the Russian??? I really enjoyed this book the second time around. Once I got past the narrator's annoying butler voice I could pick up on the humor of the father in the story. I have to say even though he is depraved and deserves to die, the father is probably my favorite character. It is hard not to enjoy his outrageous stories and comments. I laughed so hard when he made his little speech about there being a ceiling in hell and being dragged down with hooks otherwise there would be no justice in the world and it would negate the possibility of there even being a hell without the ceiling. Hilarious!

Before she went to join Sam and Mogget downstairs, Lirael paused for a moment to look at herself in the tall silver mirror that hung on the wall of her room. The image that faced her bore little resemblance to the Second Assistant Librarian of the Clayr. She saw a warlike and grim young woman, dark hair bound back with a silver cord rather than hanging free to disguise her face. She no longer wore her librarian's waistcoat, and she had a long Nehima at her side rather than a library-issue dagger.

Tim Curry is perfect as the narrator. The concept of the Abhorsen and the Old Kingdom was amazing. After I had finished the book I found myself remembering the names of all the bells. This book is worth the credit and will become an instant addiction for you!
