Story
In 1961, the small town of Haven thought they'd gotten rid of their monster. After a series of child killings, Paul Greymore was caught carrying a wounded girl. His face, disfigured from a childhood accident, seemed to confirm he was the monster the community hoped to banish. With Paul in prison, the killings stopped. For 17 years, Haven was peaceful again. But Paul served his time and has now returned to Haven - the town where he grew up, and the scene of his alleged crimes.

Story
The murders were only the beginning. No one knew what went on in the sullen, dark house on the hill, but town cop Kurt Morris intended to find out. The sleepy town of Tylersville, Maryland was being stalked by an unimaginable evil, it had become the haunting-ground for horrors too grisly to be described. Young girls had vanished without a trace. Graves had been opened, corpses unearthed, and carried away. Quiet moonlit nights gave way to a mindless slaughter, and to the sounds of hysterical screams.

There are literally no ghouls in this book till approx 30 min from the end. The human side of the story was very well written as this author always does. I enjoyed that. However, if you are shopping for a creature book, this is not it. And on a side note, I find this narrator bland. I know he is popular but leaves a lot of the exciting parts flat with his monotone presentation.

Story
Sexual obsessions running amok, a stagnant lake full of abominable horrors, and a secluded clinic with a secret wing that no one’s ever entered. These are just a few of the goings-on in this macabre tech-horror story in which veteran novelist Edward Lee takes the mad-scientist theme into shocking new territory. Security manager Clare Prentiss swears she’s being watched during her nightly rounds on a remote federal nature preserve.

I struggled through it because I wanted to hear the story but the narrator used the same voice through the whole book. For example would plainly and dully say "you cant put that in there" followed by "Claire screamed". There were plenty of "adult" situations that were all completely killed by his text book style reading of them

But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost. It's the real thing.

narration was fantastic. I kept waiting for the story to finally pop and then it was over. Maybe it's simply in contrast to the typical fast paced stories I'm used to.
There is a ridiculous techno beat that plays in between some of the chapters. And then plays for a while as the narrator starts reading. It has nothing to do with the story and isnt even of theme of the book. I found myself turning the book off when it would start.

New to Audible and this book is one of my favorites. The characters development is so complete and rich that you have genuine hate or love for them. I really enjoyed the creatures and the descriptions of them and their interactions with the humans. The narration was exceptional and really helped to keep me hooked. I never had to wonder who he was trying to portray and it made them that much more individual.

Story
From electrifying horror author Nick Cutter comes a haunting new novel, reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian and Stephen King's It, in which a trio of mismatched mercenaries is hired by a young woman for a deceptively simple task: check in on her nephew, who may have been taken against his will to a remote New Mexico backwoods settlement called Little Heaven. Shortly after they arrive, things begin to turn ominous.

The narration of this book was absolutely incredible. I've heard books where I cant tell the difference between the characters being portrayed. Not the case here. Every character was voiced distinctly and uniquely. The narrator's ability to convey emotion was gripping at times
They story itself was amazing. At first it seemed like the character building aspect was taking to long but, not at all. All the nuances of characters expressed in the early chapters come to life in later ones.

Story
Editors Randy Chandler and Cheryl Mullenax put the call out to horror writers and editors of extreme stories, the hardcore stuff that breaks boundaries and trashes taboos, the transgressive tales you can't "unread" (as Chuck Palahniuk says). Some of the stories you'll find here are loaded with very graphic descriptions of violence, sex, and depravities, while others may contain only one shocking moment of brutality. In others, the hardcore aspect may be less graphic and subtler than you might expect.

I enjoyed 99% of these stories. The only ones I skipped are the GG Allen ones. Not because they were too disturbing but, because I dont understand the worship of him.
These stories were carefully written. Well chosen for such a collection. I discovered Joe Hempel on Horror Hill and was excited to see he narrated the stories. I recommend book to any and everyone.
