Heartbreakingly Disappointing and Insulting

Terrible
Reviewed: 12-01-20
This book really missed the mark. Even the narrator, Will Wheaton, didn’t seem very enthusiastic about it. Not a good story at all and made worse by the Authors seeming need to be woke. I’m not sure if the author got bored during quarantine and wrote this trash or if he was just trying to milk the last book for whatever was left. Just pass and save yourself the 13 hours.

Story
Drawing on a wealth of psychological research, Alfie Kohn points the way to a more successful strategy based on working with people instead of doing things to them. "Do rewards motivate people?" asks Kohn. "Yes. They motivate people to get rewards." Seasoned with humor and familiar examples, Punished by Rewards presents an argument unsettling to hear but impossible to dismiss.

Excellent alternatives presented.

The author discusses many excellent points about how rewards and punishments are simply masking the real underlying problems of why children misbehave. He backs this up with much statistical data and gives good examples on ways to approach situations in a more meaningful way.

Good with some issues

The overall story is entertaining but some of the transitions make the story difficult to follow at times. There were several instances I thought the book had skipped due to the story not quite flowing smoothly. Good listen overall and narrator did a great job.

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Great story of survival and human determination.

This book is exciting right from the start and doesn't disappoint. This is an incredible story of one man's will to survive against all odds. It is a must read whether you have seen the movie or not. The narrator does a fantastic job voicing all the characters and really helps to bring the story to life.
