Awakening & Informative

This “raw” description is very informational. So Sorry this family had to go through this to begin with, but GREATLY APPRECIATE your candid conversations regarding suicide.
LAs a former paramedic (30-years) active nursing 45-years as well as past community volunteer firefighter/EMT, auxiliary county deputy, I have seen first hand what it can do mentally to our first responders. My husband & I grew up loving EMS/firefighting/law enforcement. Our first two son grew up at a local volunteer fire dept while our last born son grew up teething on EMS. Our first born son was planning to go into fire science/EMS until a very bad accident while he was on the volunteer FD, left a young man his age deceased. He realized early he was not able to do this. Our second son went into law enforcement volunteering on city auxiliary eventually becoming a full LEO. He continues in law enforcement today. We often pray for him to give him strength. Our third son, while he was exposed early to EMS, never felt the urge to follow these paths.
This is a wonderful read/listen for those needing to understand why first responders commit suicide. 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️

Story
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

This was an assigned book for ELDI (Emerging Leadership Development Institute). While at first I didn’t understand how it related to my class, but after listening further, realized this is important to understand how leadership in corporations needs to be monitored and held accountable for their actions. Very well written and excellent audible book. Thank You

Story
In this book, Galaxy tells the poignant story of his 13-year relationship with a petite gray-and-white short-haired cat named Benny, and gives singular advice for living with, caring for, and loving the feline in your home. When Benny arrived in his life, Galaxy was a down-and-out rock musician with not too much more going on than a part-time job at an animal shelter and a drug problem. Benny's previous owner brought the cat to the shelter in a cardboard box to give him up.

Awesome story by my favorite "cat" person!

Very interesting how Jackson tells his story about how the business chose him! Did not know the struggles he faced when he was younger, so glad he found happiness finally. Cried when he spoke of Bennie and letting him go. I also had to have not one, but 4 cats euthanized from old and illness. I still have little yard markers so we can talk to them. Thank You for telling your story and opening your heart for all of us to know you!

Story
Despite billions of dollars invested in medical research and technological breakthroughs in American healthcare made to prolong and improve the lives of patients, a devastating statistic remains. Two thirds of Americans die in healthcare institutions tethered to machines and tubes at bankrupting costs, despite research that shows 80 percent of Americans would prefer to spend their last days in their homes surrounded by loved ones.

The Conversation

As a healthcare provider, this is a difficult discussion to have with any family let alone your own family. Dr Volandes puts the decision into the hands of the patients. His book was very well written and informative and I had the pleasure to hear him during a case management convention in Florida. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing him speak and discuss this difficult subject. I plan to reference his book to our patients and their families and encourage them to have the discussion before it's too late.
Thank You for putting into words what everyone "tip-toes" around.
