Story
"In the middle of the road of my life I awoke in a dark wood, where the true way was wholly lost." When you find yourself suddenly without bearings, as Dante Alighieri voiced so well centuries ago, where will you look for guidance? Throughout the ages, teaches David Whyte, the language of poetry has held a special power to hazard ourselves boldly at the "fierce edges" of our lives. On Midlife and the Great Unknown, you will engage with poetic imagination as it was meant to be experienced.

This work helped me to put my life journey into a larger context. I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to reflect on their lives and open to new possibilities.

Recorded over a series of 30 hours of conversation between Simon, Gladwell, and Gladwell’s oldest friend and co-writer, journalist and Broken Record podcast co-host Bruce Headlam, the conversation flows from Simon’s music, to his childhood in Queens, NY, to his frequent collaborators including Art Garfunkel and the nature of creativity itself.

He assembled a group of eight desperately ill patients from around the world and brought them into the heart of the Amazon rain forest to put the mysterious medicines of native shamans to the test. The healing journey that unfolded would change their lives - and his own - forever. In The Sacred Science, we join Nick as he explores these primordial traditions and learns firsthand what it takes to truly heal ourselves of physical disease, emotional trauma, and the sense of "lostness" that so many of us feel in these modern times.

Shame. Just the word makes most people uncomfortable, and though we all feel shame, no one likes to acknowledge it. Why? Because shame is the most painful and destructive emotion we experience. It’s also designed to protect us. In Healing Shame, Sheila Rubin and Dr. Bret Lyon ask the question: What if your shame - that awful, overwhelming emotion - could work for you instead of sabotaging your well-being?

This was a very insightful listen which will benefit my relationships and overall well being. It brought understanding and allowed me to take more responsibility for disharmony I have contributed to.
The authors are very genuine in their expression and share their personal stories with shame which lends credibility.
The meditations if approached with openness are powerful as are the writing exercises.
The book covers many facets of shame not all of which applied to myself; however, it explained much of my own experience, and I will use the information I learned to the end of my days.

We all have ideas that we tell ourselves about God and how he works in our lives. Some are true--but many are false. James Bryan Smith believes those thoughts determine not only who we are, but how we live. In fact, Smith declares, the most important thing about a person is what they think about God. The path to spiritual transformation begins here.
