I found this book to be pretty much lacking in redeeming qualities. I kept listening to it for nearly 20 hours waiting for it to get better but it never did. It is interesting in a way to listen about how people lived in that time but the continual soul searching and the preaching damnation and the agony of original "sin" was just too much. If you are looking for a book describing how a woman (who had little freedom back then anyway) took on and tortured herself and her family for her sins of desire, then this is the book for you. The agony of soul searching is endless. I never got through the whole thing and have abandoned it because I simply couldn't tolerate listening to the constant fear, pain and agony that she put herself through. The narrator was somewhat slow although seemed appropriate for the material. I finally sped her up a bit hoping to get through to the good parts but I finally gave up. I am respectful of each person's journey to God, but this woman definitely took the long road. I finally got tired of listening to it and how she made everyone around her suffer for her perceived sins of being human when this is how God made us to begin with. I could not identify with the main character and finally gave up trying.

There is very little information here and it is simply repeated over and over. At least through the first half of the book. I couldn't get through the whole thing. The narrator is difficult and stiff to listen to and the content is so simplified with little basis in fact that you keep waiting for it to reveal the "secret". But it never does, or at least nothing that I have not heard before nor anything surprising. The constant harping on how animals automatically control their weight with no issues and "never" have weight problems is dogmatic and stupid. I see plenty of overweight pets who have succumbed to the evils of "fake" food via their humans feeding it to them. And lots of them have our modern illnesses too. Overall, there are a few simple concepts here and an underlying bias for a plant based diet/low fat diet. That's all fine if that's what helps you.

The "satiation" theories are not backed up by science, at least not that I can see. The idea that our bodies can count calories is pretty silly. There is no proof of that.

I would not recommend this book to anyone who has done any research into the modern diet and it's pitfalls. There is nothing new for you here.

I did not like the narrator for Guilia as she was hard to listen to. The story seemed only half finished but the characters were interesting. Some of the description was repetitive but overall I liked it well enough. Interesting era.

I thought the different narrators somewhat distracting switching back and forth with no clear reason. And I missed Davina Porter as she does such a wonderful job of bringing these tales to life.

This was a wonderful book to listen to. I love what she says, her message comes home to me and I know I will be listening to this over and over as I walk the path of midlife. It all comes together in this book and it's amazing.
