Story
Young Alvin was born the seventh son of a seventh son. By his birthright, he possesses magical powers and is destined to become something great, perhaps even a Maker. Indeed, Alvin is special. But the boy remains vulnerable to dark forces who reach out to destroy him and are willing to do anything to keep him from growing up. Carefully weaving the lore and the folk-magic of the men and women who settled a continent—as well as the beliefs of the tribes who were there before them—Orson Scott Card has created a fascinating alternate frontier America.

One of the top fantasy books I've ever read

The performance was amazing! I wanted to start with that because a number of reviews state the quality is terrible. If it was bad it must have been remastered, because her voice is great and so is her performance. Listen to the sample audio provided. Unfortunately, the sequels by the same narrator do not have nearly the same audio quality. I hope they get remastered, because they sound like they are from an echo chamber.
The story is an alternate history of America that takes place around the early 1800's when people were trying to settle out west. The big difference is that people are sometimes born with special talents, can do hexes, or read all possible futures among other abilities.
This book does everything well, but the one thing that shines for me is the character development. It is easy to become very attached to the characters. This book has quickly become one of my favorites.
