I wanted to like this book -- it had everything I could have wanted for a binge-listen. But the narration is dull and overly emphatic and the story is predictable and lackluster. Good try, but not for me.

The Sklar Brothers set this up like it was going to be an exploration of the country, post-2016 election. Like somehow they were exploring the root of our division and then writing comedy about it. But basically they went to a bunch of liberal cities with liberal audiences and riffed on local attractions. Add in a few obvious jokes about burritos and diarrhea and that's basically what you'll get. I don't think I laughed once when they performed their sets.

Mark Bramhall is fantastic as a narrator. The story is not bad, either and genuinely creepy in parts. Recommended for some good Southern horror.

Would you be willing to try another one of Coleen Marlo and Paul Boehmer ’s performances?

No. Maybe this just wasn't their usual material, but Boehmer's narration was almost laughable. He single-handedly ruined this audiobook for me. I couldn't get past his ridiculous tone and grandiose way of speaking. No subtlety here, whatsoever. Marlo's narration was simply passable.

First time I've ever had a book ruined by a narrator so this is a new experience for me. Maybe read this one in paperback.
