What a great series

I love this writer and the complexity of his magic system. The world, characters, storylines, and everything else are great, but I’m here for his well thought out and meticulously crafted magic system he weaves through his books. I love it.
Planning on reading his next series soon. Don’t pass up on this series.

Story
After facing war, death, unruly gods, and unmitigated evil, Minalan the Spellmonger is forced to return to Farise, the site of his earliest battles, with the simple assignment to conquer the subtropical city-state and expel the pirates that plague the kingdom’s shipping. Tired of warfare, Minalan embarks on a clandestine campaign to do so, assuming an alias and setting up shop in Farise as a mere Practical Adept as cover for his operation. Recruiting a cadre of talented agents to assist, he reluctantly begins the task of infiltrating and observing Farisian society.

Finally getting somewhere
Reviewed: 10-15-24
Not only was this a classic story from Minalin’s prospective, but we finally started addressing all the loose ends, yet unseen bits of lore, and subplots that have built up throughout the entire series. With the last book and now this one, this wide, WIDE world and EXTENSIVE world building is finally coming together.
Terry is my favorite author by a long-shot, so maybe I’m bias… but it really is that good.

Quinn can barely handle her own life. When the Library of Everywhere discovers her compatible magical signature, suddenly, she is the sole existing potential librarian. Now, it's not only the weight of her world on her shoulders—Quinn must connect with the library system before the universe itself disintegrates. Once she's settled, it should be quiet, peaceful work—just as soon as she battles a few engorged bookworms, repairs hundreds of years of damage, and figures out why there's been no librarian for the last several centuries.

Just Amazing - Love the Concept
Reviewed: 08-09-24
I LOVE books about fantasy libraries, magic tomes, book binders, scribes… it’s just a fantasy niche genre that I love.
This book hits all of those topics and more.
MC is pulled into a fantasy world where she becomes the librarian for a fantasy library responsible for regulating the flow of magic to the universe and cataloguing all magical knowledge.
There is action when battling bookworms and reclaiming overdue books from powerful psychopaths, there are good characters, there are GameLit elements, and there are the elements of restoring, running, and expanding a living, magical, multidimensional library catering to every fantasy species you can imagine (and some you never thought to imagine).
The writing is excellent, the performance is done by one of my favorite book narrators, and the story and topic are right up my alley. I finished with this book and started reading ahead on Royal Road because I couldn’t wait for more. Will definitely be purchasing the future audio versions.
More magical libraries please!!! :)

Everything I Expected and More
Reviewed: 07-17-24
I expected to like this series just from the description, but it ended up being even better than I thought. I bought the second book in the series as soon as I finished this one.
The MC trades her life on earth and finds herself in a brand new fantasy world as a fledgling goddess in a place that isn’t very welcoming to deities as a rule. The magic system was more complex than I expected, but that was a good thing. There was a lot of depth to the story and a lot of primary characters with differing personalities.
The male and female narrators isn’t that common, but it definitely works and added to the experience.
5 stars for this book. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Story
When Alice Verianna went to sleep, she was just another teen from the Denver suburbs. She definitely didn't expect to be transported to a magical alternate dimension, inhabited by monsters and presided over by a mysterious System. Here, people resemble RPG characters and everyone has access to their own status screens. Grappling with the mechanics of the elusive System isn't the only challenge Alice faces. It seems an underground organization known as the Society of Starry Eyes has taken a particular interest in other dimensions.

I love litrpgs and books about scholars, librarians, scribes, etc. This was just enough of all of that to really peak my interest. While there is certainly action, and it’s a bit slow at first, this was the perfect amount of world building, magic, science, and fantasy/gamelit elements to make the list of my genre favorites.

Slow to Start, But Worth The Listening Time
Reviewed: 04-12-23
I really wasn’t sure if I’d like this book, and to be honest I REALLY wasn’t sure after such a slow start in the first couple hours. However, I kept listening and I’m glad because by the end I was satisfied and hopeful about where the series may go in the future.
I must admit I was annoyed when it ended in what most would call a cliffhanger, but did give closure to the main storyline of the book.
I also found the MC to be quite relatable, while annoying at times. The author made him HUMAN, not some hero. He’s essentially the same person most of us would be in his place, I think.
I really wish this book had continued another 50 or so pages, and their BETTER BE ANOTHER BOOK… (threat of violence implied).
As a stand-alone I call it a good but average book, if it becomes a series, I think I’ll buy the next the day it’s released.
This one is definitely worth the credit and listening time, as long as the story continues after the first book.
The narrator did pretty well, but I’m only giving him 4 stars because if the grating “s” sounds he made occasionally. Take that out and I’m looking forward to hearing him again.

I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life. Everyone loves Orion Lake. Everyone else, that is. Far as I’m concerned, he can keep his flashy combat magic to himself. I’m not joining his pack of adoring fans. I don’t need help surviving the Scholomance, even if they do. Forget the hordes of monsters and cursed artifacts; I’m probably the most dangerous thing in the place. Just give me a chance and I’ll level mountains and kill untold millions, making myself the dark queen of the world.

Wow... A New Take on Magic School
Reviewed: 11-18-20
I went into this book not sure if I was going to like it at all. Having said that, I thought this was one of the best takes on "Magic School" that I've read in a long time (and I've read a LOT of different books and series with the theme).
First off, there are no "teachers" or "professors" in this school. The entire school is controlled by magic. All of the students are magically transported to the school in their first year and remain there until after they graduate. The school is also infested with all kinds of dangerous creatures that prey on the students. However, since untrained magic users have a very low survival rate without proper training, attending the dangerous Scholomance school is one of their only real options.
The MC is a relative outcast. The daughter of a prominent healer and pacifist, she herself has an affinity for spells of dominion and mass destruction (spells that she dare not use or risk corrupting herself and her magic). Throughout the book, she begins to develop a friendship with some of her fellow students, including the wildly popular and heroic boy that has saved her life on multiple occasions. They work together to face the growing threat of the magical creatures that infest the school.
I thought the narrator was perfect for the book as well. She did an excellent job with the different characters and genders.
Honestly, I liked this book enough that I started reading other books by the author after reading this one. She has a pretty interesting imagination and viewpoint on fantasy and magic. I HATED that she left the book in such an obvious cliffhanger... I've often said that writers don't need to do this to keep readers coming back and turns people off more than anything. However, the overall plot and story of the book did conclude (at least) and the ending was more of a setup for the next book.

Even as their engine suffers a critical malfunction and Matt scrambles to fund the costly repairs, Val, the ship’s reticent engineer, unexpectedly comes face-to-face with a deadly ghost from his past. Now it’s up to Matt, Ryce, and Tony to rescue him, even if it means breaking the law and striking an uneasy bargain with a local black-market kingpin - but what if this time their best efforts simply aren’t good enough?

Entertaining and Developing Story
Reviewed: 06-11-20
This is the second book in the series. I would DEFINITELY not read this one without starting with the first. Having said that, this book is even better than the first of the series. I really like where the author went in this book and read it twice as fast as the first. Both are solid, entertaining sci-fi.
The narration was also just as good as the first, perhaps better since the narrator is obviously getting used to the characters and falling into the tempo of the story.
5 stars and a solid recommendation for Sci-fi fans.
