Voice is important!
Reviewed: 03-05-22
How important the voice of the reader is to the enjoyment of an audiobook! Here is not a good fit. A female, softly-reading-her-children-to-sleep voice has been cast to read a strong, determined, male character. The pairing is so far off that every time the story reminds that the character speaking is male is a jar. How different this whole story would be if read by a strong male voice, or even just a more neutral voice.

Story
There are few people Nero Wolfe respects, and Lon Cohen of the New York Gazette is one of them. So when Cohen asks for a favor, Wolfe is inclined to listen. According to Cohen, someone wants to kill the Gazette's gossip columnist, Cameron Clay. Death threats are a regular hazard for Clay, who's hurled insults and accusations at every bold-faced name in the five boroughs. But the latest threats have carried a more sinister tone. The columnist has narrowed his potential killers down to five people.

Narrator .
I don’t think a worse voice for narrator of a Nero Wolfe novel could be found. I am only 7 min. Into chapter one and I am gritting my teeth. This is NOT Archie!

Story
Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.
