Story
Being a lowly “walker” in a world of vampires, werewolves, and fae once kept her safe. But Mercy’s bark–and bite–are not so harmless any more. Though Mercy can shift her shape into that of a coyote, her loyalty never wavers. So when her former boss and mentor, Zee, asks for her help, she’s there for him. A series of murders has rocked a fae reservation, and Zee needs her unique gifts, namely her coyote sense of smell, to sniff out the killer.

This adaptation was, overall, a great listen. I'm guessing if you are listening to this adaptation, you are already familiar with the characters. The only quibble I have is that no one told the actor voicing Ben about his background--and the actor didn't research it on his own. The accent he chose is nearly Cockney. That's not what Patty wrote! Ben is absolutely critical in this installment, and it bothered me that the accent was so off. Can it be overdubbed? Other than that one thing, It was great.

There is unexpected sadness, but it was still a fun romp. I would definitely read something else by this author.

Story
Sci-fi's favorite antisocial AI is back on a mission. The case against the too-big-to-fail GrayCris Corporation is floundering, and more importantly, authorities are beginning to ask more questions about where Dr. Mensah's SecUnit is. And Murderbot would rather those questions went away. For good. Martha Wells' Rogue Protocol is the third in the Murderbot Diaries series, starring a humanlike android who keeps getting sucked back into adventure after adventure, though it just wants to be left alone, away from humanity and small talk.

Men suck. They break you. Leave you. Take everything until there's nothing left. And frankly, I'm done allowing them to make me feel insignificant. So, forget men. I'll just throw myself into my job, because at least that never fails me. Jackson has other plans, though. I refuse to be impressed by his perfect body, the cute dimple on his cheek, or the rugged stubble on his face. Jackson Cole can be resisted. But, I'm only fooling myself. He's going to wear me down. I can feel it. In the end he'll prove that once again, I'm no one's beloved.

Crying
Reviewed: 10-12-21
I didn’t keep track, but it feels as if the MC cried in every single chapter. It got to the point of, oh no not again, there are other ways to move the plot along. There’s a lot of descriptive sex. The book ends on a cliffhanger, but I won’t be reading the second book.

Story
Doyle was back at Scotland Yard after taking maternity leave, and the powers-that-be had decided they’d ease her way by assigning her to assist DS Isabella Munoz, which was a fate only slightly worse than death. Annoying, it was, that she had to answer to Munoz; not to mention that Munoz wasn’t given many high-quality homicide assignments in the first place.

Narration Blunder
Reviewed: 07-21-21
The lack of proper accents substantially detracted from my enjoyment of this book. A narrator who can do various accents of British English, as well as working class Irish, is needed. Unfortunately, the same narrator is listed for subsequent audio books in this series. I won't be buying them.

Deal Breaker

I stopped reading in chapter 4, when the so-called hero uses physical force to intimidate Grace, the central female character. If the Marine is suffering from PTSD, that needed to be established before such a scene. No. No. No. Never acceptable.
