One of the best audio books I’ve ever listened to. Michelle Obama is a magnificent writer and storyteller. I didn’t realize how much I needed to revisit the hope and possibility of change that existed during the Obama administration. Something broke in me after the results of the 2016 election. Michelle‘s book re-connected me with the transformative power of believing in the beauty of our dreams: of believing we can become whoever it is we were meant to be as long as we never give up trying, listening, learning, and starting again. In her story, I experienced something else too — something I didn’t even realize how much I needed until it was happening: healing. I wish I could thank her personally for that, and for sharing the contents of her heart with such startling candor. Maybe someday I’ll get that chance. Buy this book now and press play. Don’t delay for a moment. I promise you’ll be grateful you did.

One of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to. Compelling, vulnerable, honest, moving. Trevor Noah is an excellent writer and admirable human. We are lucky to have him.

I can’t remember the last time an author so directly captured my own lived experience through their words. I am stunned by this memoir. I want everyone I care about to read it.

Unflinching in its honesty. Aching in its evocation of first love. And searing in its examination of loss. These characters became fully realized to the extent that I was in no way prepared to say good-bye to them at the book’s conclusion.

Perhaps that is David’s greatest achievement with this work: his sorrow at the ending of these relationships somehow becomes our own.
