Good Book - GREAT Series

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 03-22-10

This is the 3rd book in Cornwell's "Saxon Series", all dealing with a fictional main character set in the time of Alfred the Great.

Cornwell does a fabulous job weaving a fictional story into true historical events and real-life characters.

I actually listened to the 5th book in this series first and have gone back listen to the first four books in order. I recommend taking them in order.

I am getting ready to start the last one - Book 4 -all of them have been terrific!

Unfortunately, books 1, 2 and 4 are abridged on Audible.

ABRIDGED audio books should be BANNED!! :)

I have enjoyed this series so much that I am going to either read the hardback of Book 4, or listen to the unabridged version on cassette (if i can find it - it is hard to find. I have not found it on CD or in digital format at all - I don't think it is out in those formats from what i can see)

Overall, both this book and the series are highly recommended!

P.S. I read that he is writing another book in this series as Book 5 certainly didn't conclude the saga. I can't wait!!

Overall - Good Book

Good.... but not great.

The story is just not quite intriguing enough to classify it as a "can't put down" novel.

However, I DID enjoy it. This was my first Dismas Hardy novel and I will probably try another.

I believe a previous reviewer in that this may not be one of his best.

I like the author's style, and he is quite brilliant at creating good legal angles and interesting dialogue.

Laurie is dead on in her review. The editor oughta be shot for leaving such a hole open in the conclusion - he/she totally missed closing it!!

Good Narrator - Overall recommended.

My First Vince Flynn Novel

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

This was my first Vince Flynn novel and it was teriffic!

I really enjoyed someone writing about the radical muslim world as sick and twisted without a sympathetic ear - whatsoever.

No quarter is given to the radicals in this book. This book will be a breath of fresh air for true Muslims and non-Muslims alike!

Great non-stop story that will keep you riveted. George Guidall does a great job on narration.

I Just Kept Waiting for the Story to Get Going

Overall
3 out of 5 stars

There is a very simple story line here that never delivers any bang for the buck.

Most of the book is spent away from the main story line to develop the characters, which the author does fairly well.

Likewise, the characters itertwining with the politics of operating as a spy network is also fairly interesting, but mostly unexciting.

I teetered between a 2 and a 3 and went ahead with a 3 as the story was narrated well. Dick Hill, the narrator, is good - as usual.

I will probably try another Griffin book as my father is a fan and recommends him. He did tell me that this one was not as good as his others.

Otherwise, I would probably not choose another Griffin book.
