Story
Vaelin Al Sorna, warrior of the Sixth Order, called Darkblade, called Hope Killer. The greatest warrior of his day, and witness to the greatest defeat of his nation: King Janus' vision of a Greater Unified Realm drowned in the blood of brave men fighting for a cause Vaelin alone knows was forged from a lie. Sick at heart, he comes home, determined to kill no more. Named Tower Lord of the Northern Reaches by King Janus's grateful heir, he can perhaps find peace in a colder, more remote land far from the intrigues of a troubled Realm.

Much better in book form than audio format
Reviewed: 01-12-21
It's a pretty good story, I do want to start off by saying that. However, I only listened to this book via Audible. I feel like the book would be much better in book form and that is because the narrator has a great voice, but everything is read in the exact same voice tone. There are no changes in the characters tone or intonation like a lot of other narrators do to show the difference between characters having a conversation. That is my one and only gripe with the book, the rest of it is great. Just do yourself a favor and read this book, don't listen to it.

Story
When a high-ranking officer gallops into the quiet Mistyvales, he brings a warning that shakes the countryfolk to their roots. But for Aedan, a scruffy young adventurer with veins full of fire and a head full of ideas, this officer is not what he seems. The events that follow propel Aedan on a journey that only the foolhardy or desperate would risk, leading him to the gates of the nation's royal academy - a whole world of secrets in itself. But this is only the beginning of his discoveries.

really enjoyed this book.

Loved the narration. The story started out kind of strange, a lot of things happen that are not what you expect. I really ended up enjoying this book a lot, I can't wait for the next one to come out. Character development was great, and you learn to love dome characters while hating others. I can't wait to see where this series end up!

Story
Druss, Captain of the Axe: the stories of his life were told everywhere. Instead of the wealth and fame he could have claimed, he had chosen a mountain lair, high in the lonely country bordering on the clouds. There the grizzled old warrior kept company with snow leopards and awaited his old enemy, death.

Fantasy at it's best!

I have read all of David Gemmell's books, and they are all fantastic! I wish everyone could discover them. Gemmell has this way of sucking you into the story almost immediately. His stories are full of detail, but not so much that you feel you are wading through chapters of boring, but essential information. Do yourself a favor and read/listen to this book. I can promise you that as you do, you will seek out his other books and read more of the early tales of Druss and other amazing characters like Waylander, The Jerusalem Man, Bane, Tenaka Khan, Skillgannon, and many others. You will find anti-heroes, characters you love and some you love to hate.
