Story
Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic “Politics and the English Language,” but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities. In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind.

This is good starting point for deeper insights into the "why"? I believe that the challenge is to be aware of history. There appears to be "mistakes" that are repeated as people move through time.

It's mandatory that ALL Americans hear these accounts and appreciate the sacrifice that all Americans made in WW II and not just the stories of some soldiers. Today's atmosphere of banning books is shameful. History is facts and to try to shape those facts to perpetuate a certain narrative is sad.

I am blessed to for made it through this book. To stand alone for what is right is a strength. History favors people who stand for right in the face of injustice. This is why books should not be banned because History must be told from more than a single source.

Explore the power of the underdog in Malcolm Gladwell's dazzling examination of success, motivation, and the role of adversity in shaping our lives, from the best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia. Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a stone and a sling, and ever since then the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants. David's victory was improbable and miraculous. He shouldn't have won. Or should he have?
