Story
For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

A little slow, but set up for greatness
Reviewed: 12-16-16
Similar to the way of kings, the first book in this series is a bit bloated and on the slow side. I wasn't at first wowed by the magic, and the lore seemed an afterthought. The main character was rather dull and had the typical Sanderson sulk. But just as I was about to give up, things started to turn. The climax finally set the hook and sets us up for what I hope to be greatness. This is exactly how I felt after reading the way of kings, and the follow up to that book was incredible. I've got faith it'll be the same way here.

Terrorists have acquired a terrible new weapon that can crash the power grid and plunge America into a new dark age. A coordinated attack is planned to shut out all lights and emergency services to 10 major cities. Planes will fall, hospitals will go dark, no help will come. And in that terrible darkness, a dreadful plague will be released. If the lights go off, nothing can stop the bioweapon from killing millions. At the same time, the intelligence services are being torn apart from within by a plague of betrayal, murder, and suicide.

Even a misstep doesn't hurt this family
Reviewed: 05-27-16
As always, it was a fantastic ride into the world if the DMS. Sadly, the big bad was so obvious from the early stages of the book. That of course hurts the big reveal and had me worried the series may be slipping. Despite that, I still loved the book. These characters almost feel like my family at this point. I can't imagine not having more adventures with them. And lovecraft lore in a Joe ledger novel! Great stuff.

Story
Anton Gorodetsky is just getting a feel for his new powers, when his boss sends him to assist the Scottish Night Watch in a murder investigation. A young Russian man has been murdered - apparently by a vampire. But the mystery is more than it seems. The murderer appears to be someone with intimate knowledge of the Night Watch. Before long, Anton realizes that a plot is being hatched by the forces of both darkness and light that - unless he can intervene - may mean nothing less than Armageddon.

Good end to a great series
Reviewed: 04-14-11
The last watch is a bit different from the other books in the series. It still has the same 3 part format, but each part feels much more like a continuation than in the previous books, and the book also reads almost like a detective story. But none the less, it is still a great addition to the series because the characters are what really drive this series for me. I also felt that this one had a bit more action in it, which is a plus for me, as the second book in particular was a little slow for me. All in, a good end, which was left open for further adventures with the great night watch agent, a magician now beyond classification, Anton Gorodetskyi! Also, the narration was fantastic. Really helps to bring the characters to life.

The journey ends

What can I say about this series that hasn't already been said. All you need to know is that these three books were better than anything I have read in years. Though the final book is a little bloated in the middle, and the ending was a little rushed, I had grown to love these characters so much I didn't care. If u made it this far, I doubt you need a review to convince you to continue, If you are thinking of starting, stop thinking, just get it.
