The author James McBride has given us a gift with The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store and the narrator Dominic Hoffman is an excellent match.

McBride succeeded in making me laugh, cry, cringe, connect deeper with my living and deceased relatives and wider community, cry some more, and then think and feel deeply about this book well after I had finished it.

Hoffman narrated this so well that I often lost all perception that there was a narrator; it felt more like the characters themselves were telling their own story, which made it all the more emotionally moving.

Jean-Marc Toledano the author succeeds in walking-the-walk by delivering a book that is funny, engaging, and thought provoking.

Complete this book and you'll come away with a deep appreciation for why we all need and crave humor, what the building blocks of humor are and how we can each use them like Legos to build something of self-expression that is valued and welcomed by others, and finally how and when to use humor to help elevate the feelings for ourselves and for others that our experiences are positive and meaningful.
